A new racing game by Activision "BLUR" coming in 2010

Blur is an upcoming arcade racing video game developed by Fernando Mora and published by Rival. It features a racing style that incorporates real world cars and locales with arcade style handling and vehicular combat.

Developer : Bizarre Creations
Publisher : Activision
Distributor: Activision Blizzard
Platforms : Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Release date : Spring, 2010

Blur follows a career mode where the story plays out through email messages sent through numerous fictional social networks. Here, the player will encounter numerous characters and many licensed cars ranging from Dodge Vipers to Lotus Exiges to Ford Transit Vans fitted with F1 engines, all of which have full damage modelling, a shield bar which can be used at any time by the player to protect the car's health bar from other weapons and separate traits, such as Acceleration, Speed, Drift, Grip and Stability. Some special car models have been designed by Bizarre Creations themselves. There are also some heavily altered versions of familiar urban environments, such as the Los Angeles river half pipe and several parts of London. These areas were altered to make the races more enjoyable instead of the developers having to strictly abide by each twist and turn. The below power-ups and combinations will be introduced at a snail's pace to make the user feel acquainted with each one. Depending on the character(s) the player races against or tags along with in team races, they will have their own racing styles, power-up set ups, match types, locales, cars and will be apart of certain fictional servers. As the player races well, performs stunts and uses power-ups in certain ways during races, the player will gain 'fan points', Blur's equivalent to PGR's Kudos system. These points help the player progress through the career, purchase more cars and parts and earn more fans for the user base. During the career, challenges will take place mid-race when the player drives through a fan icon. Completing these short challenges (i.e. find a secret nitro power-up) will reward the player with a fan points boost.

There are six power-ups in the game, five of which are used for offensive measures. Only three power-ups (Nitro, Repair, Shunt) are available at the beginning and must be purchased in order to be used.

Shock - This sends out an electromagnetic pulse that homes in on the nearest driver. This is recommended for use in large packs of cars for maximum benefit. However, the player will have to stay away from the blast as to not get affected against the player as well, or they can "Shock" themselves.

Barge - This emits a wave of energy out of either side of the user's car to knock another car away. This power-up is best used on the apex of turns or at path junctions to veer the driver off course or into a solid stone wall.

Shunt - A projectile-like weapon that shoots out the front of the car to give the player in front a lurch forwards. It's best used at an angle or near a row of obstacles for enemies or in team races to give the team mate a nudge forwards.

Nitro - This item gives the player a short speed boost, as the name suggests. This weapon is usually a main staple in racing games thus far. It's best used for boosting on clear stretches of road, as it's difficult to steer while using it. You may still use it around corners, but you'll have to be careful, or else...

Mines - Another self explanatory weapon, mines can be laid behind the car for other opponents to run into. These mines are very large and easy to spot, so they must be placed so that it's almost impossible for rival cars not to hit them.

Repair - This final self explanatory power-up recovers all lost health and shield power for the car, but unlike the other power-ups, this one is not stored in the inventory and is instead used instantaneously.

All of these power-ups (except for repair) can be stored in three slots on the HUD and can either be used one by one, and more of the same power-up can be at once for better effect. Since this inventory can be upgraded to support more weapons as the career progresses (2 to 5 slots), there are reported to be 300 combination of these power-ups.

Some of the vehicles in the game are:

* Dodge Viper
* 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8
* 1969 Chevy Camaro SS
* Ford GT
* 2008 Shelby GT500KR
* Ford Mustang
* Volkswagen Golf GTI
* Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
* Hummer H2
* 2008 Audi R8
* 2007 Lotus Exige S
* 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse
* 2009 Ford F-150
* 2008 Chevrolet Camaro
* 2006 Nissan 350Z
* Volkswagen Bug
* 2009 Audi TT
* 2009 Ford Focus RS
* 1994 Ford Transit Van
* BMW M6

There will be more vehicles than that..

And some more HQ pictures for you ==

System Requirements not yet revealed. As soon as it does i shall post. So if you found this post useful. Thank me

I can't view the images, but I do not like the words "race" and "blur" in the same sentence. That alway hints you need ungodly amounts of graphical power and all you see on the screen resembles an oil painting of a three year old.

This seems pretty cool, but I'm definitely more excited about Split/Second.

Yeah. I would have started a thread to give details about that but the thing is there arent many details yet about the game. Only very little about it.

this game just makes racing games so over dramatic and over the top with the whole blur thing,i wouldn't like this game in my opinion and F1 engines in a van? thats even worse.

Dont judge the game yet. Who knows? Its from Activision. It might be awesome or it might suck as hell lol.

It was the same for Burnout Paradise. There were vans in BP (they basically had F1 engines lol) but it was a great game so cant say how BLUR will be like...

Probably the good Ol Cosworth from 67-92

Shunt - A projectile-like weapon that shoots out the front of the car to give the player in front a lurch forwards. It's best used at an angle or near a row of obstacles for enemies or in team races to give the team mate a nudge forwards.

Nitro - This item gives the player a short speed boost, as the name suggests. This weapon is usually a main staple in racing games thus far. Man Interstae76-82 (which was ok but not the 70 feel like 76 was) All over again,Wish they would bring 76 up to 2010 dx11 standards.

Im not sure. Likely DX11 but who knows it might be DX10 or even 9

Too bad i was never able to play it since i didnt have a 360. Closest carange type game to that i have played is FlatOut 2 & FlatOut Ultimate Carnage. They still are one of my all time favourites..

Oh yeah.

Talking about multiplayer here are some details about multiplayer :

The game can be played with up to 4 players via splitscreen and the game can be taken online with a maximum of 20. However, users cannot play online with splitsceen at the same time. Once online the player will encounter what Bizarre Creations have dubbed "Racebook"(a racing version of Facebook). Here, the user can create an account and join any of the fictional servers in the career. Each mode can be altered how the player sees fit (number of laps, assists, no. of power-ups, team races etc.) and can share these options with friends they make over the service. These races can be played in teams and the matches can be altered to support certain power-ups, cars, tracks and other variables. You can also set up a match type called "World Tour" which is essentially a quick play option for players who want to jump into a match with no hassle. Here, every player is given a random car and thrown into a random series of courses with a standard ruleset. Other multiplayer modes can be unlocked when multiple user's fan points culminate into a certain total.
