As much as I like the performance of these direct touch heatpipe coolers, the heatpipes take up too much room on the base and the ones on the sides won't even touch the IHS of the CPU. Either make one big solid heatpipe (like the vapor chamber) or squish the heatpipes closer together so there are no gaps. The only other option would be some kind of hybrid approach (like the Xigmatek Thor's Hammer) where some heatpipes are direct touch while others are set inside the middle of the base like normal.

We aren't questioning its thermal conductive threshold, but rather it's physical construction. The base of this heatsink is wider than the IHS of even the biggest i7 processors so the two outermost heatpipes will hardly contact the processor (if at all) resulting in performance less than what you would expect if all 5 heatpipes were conducting heat.

theres too many of these HDT coolers lately, the market is beyond saturated with them. Wonder when they'll have VCDT (Vapor chamber direct touch)... these would probably have a vapor chamber base and just alu fins extruded and fan bolted on top.

I've been using an OEM version of this cooler for some time (same except for the fan and it's not nickel coated like this and the IceAge).

It's this is the one, it's £22 + VAT as part of our systems:

On 775 and 1156 you only get full contact with upto 4 heatpipes due to the smaller IHS but AM2 and 1366 CPUs cover more of the base plate.

Performance is not compromised and it cannot be beaten on price/performance and you can always get an extra 3-10C out of it with a pair of fans using the extra set of mounts provided. Preliminary testing shows that this cooler can take an i9 to 4GHz.
