5770 crossfire, worth it?

I'm thinking of getting myself a new gpu around christmas, but funds are a bit low, so right now the only cards fitting my budget are the 5770. I'll get one now and maybe later get another one to crossfire (when it runs out of juice) so lets get to the point, is it worth it? Right now I have a 9800gt 512mb and my screen resolution is 1920x1080.

If you can afford 2 5770s, you can afford 1 5850. That's probably your better solution.

Yeah, I would keep the 9800GT in use for now, save your money a bit more and get a 5850.

The problem is that the 2nd 5770 would come later on lol. So i can't really afford a 5850 for now. But anyways I think I'll heed your advice and wait. Its a pity the 9800gt is running out of juice (no eye candy at this resolution) cause it has been a great card lol.

What does the rest of your system consist of?

Its a 3y old pc, gb p35-ds3l, e6750, 4 gigs of ram and a CM 550w psu. I'm doing a major overhaul this month, thats why I was willing to save some cash with a single 5770 for now (so I can get cash for other parts).

you need good motherboard for crossfire
2 pcie x16 slots or something, someone smarter correct me on this.

You are correct. The only thing is that they will not read 16x once you install two cards UNLESS you use an FX board. I use a GX board and my style chipset is GX. The difference is x8. Now does that make any real difference? Nope.

actually you probably wouldnt see that much of a difference at x4 with a 5770, checkout the tpu article with the 5870 pci-e slot scaling.

if think it's better to buy an hd 5850 and use you older 9800gt for physx , i shoud do that if your psu is strong enough, and than it does not matter if your 2nd slot is @8x or @4x because it won't need that high speed ,only physx in games

When both slots are occupied they both become 4x. That means the 5850 will also be running at 4x. Not good.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. Yeah thought about that, thats why I'm leaning for a gigabyte 790fx ud5p (seems it runs 16x/16x). And yeah I'm going the amd route this time since it won't cost me a tooth Here's hoping they won't screw the am3 socket soon, cause I like my builds to age well (so I can have an upgrade without a major overhaul).
