Quick question [PSU molex]

I found out that my sisters p4 computer (which was from me) has a molex with 1 black wire (ground I think) pulled off from the metal inserted in the plastic connector. Is it possible to solder that on?

The wire is just pulled out, I think that should easily be fixed. Maybe a picture will help. can you post one?

It should have 2 small tabs on the metal end that plugs into the connector. Make sure they are not broken so u can pull them up abit and push the metal end into the connector and hear the "snap".

If they are broke, might as well solder a new end on as everytime u hook something up to that connector, it will slide back out.

Well I will try to describe it as best as I can, as I don't have a camera with me.

I have attached a small diagram which shows what was pulled out or broken off from soldering... The one rounded with an X is the one that got pulled off/broke.

Forgive me for the rough drawing lol, not as good with Paint as with Photoshop. But it should give you the idea.

The metal insert is fine, the wire connecting to it got snapped or something. So can I just strip a bit of wire and solder it to the metal insert?

So the metal end is still in the plastic? If so take a very small flathead screw driver and find the tabs and push them down and pull the metal end out. Then open where the wire supposed to be clamped to and strip the wire and reclamp and reinsert.

Ahh so no soldering required, I just push out the metal insert and re-clamp the darned wire?

Whew I thought it'd gonna be a tough job, well best of luck to me, wiring ain't my expertise lol.

Better do it later when the sun is out.

Merry Christmas and thanks ...!

They are correct, and if the metal piece is unusable they sell them online.

and if ya have dead fans with female molex connectors or anything dead with female connectors, save them. You never know when you will need one for something else or as an extension cable/piggy back to plug in a few extra drives and such.

Just push it in from the back. Its got 2 fins on either side that lock it in place. * To put it back in*

oh shyt I mis read it. haha. Sorry.

what I do is I relive some pressure by applying pressure from the back and take a small flathead screw driver and bend the fins down and push it out.

Woot! I've succeeded although I don't have the crimping tool for the wire I made a temporary fix. Needle nose plies, some scotch tape and viola lol. The ground wire connected the molex power connector works like new, although still gonna get that fixed when I get a crimper.

In the PC world you cannot be scared, just try it, everything is replaceable. some cheap to replace, some rather expensive, but indeed replaceable
