Possible problems with new factory OC'ed radeon 4650

Hello all!

I just bought an xfx radeon 4650 1gb XXX edition thats factory overclocked. It was pretty cheap and was the only one in stock in my local e-tailer :P

Anyway, i noticed that it NEVER downclocks itself when not in use. Just sits at its stock 650mhz even at idle. Therefore its idle temp is pretty high as well, approx. 49-50 celcius.
Though it looks like the memory does downclock itself.

I tried newest drivers from ati, ones that came with the gpu (yuck), and even ones from xfx themselves.

Any suggestions? Is it broken? Bad bios? sucks because its xfx? (never owned a gpu from xfx before)

btw, the bios was NOT in techpowerups database, so i uploaded it.

Bad stock bios. Contact XFX to see if they have a better bios for your card.

XFX is a good company. Make sure you register the card to receive the lifetime warranty.

Just got off from talking with a support guy at xfx. He said it was normal that low budget/slow cards does not underclock and only the high end ones do.

Well, ive never owned a budget gpu before and certainly not one from xfx.

Are there any other 4650 owners that can check their cards idle speed? So i can see if im crazy or not?

Thank you, and how many mhz does the core idle at?

the XXX version only has a 50mhz overclock over the standard 600mhz. Cant remember how much the memory is overclocked.

Ok so yours does not downclock the gpu as well? Well that calms me a bit... Its just a bit severe i think, constant 600mhz? not that energy efficient.

Doesn't appear that it does. I was reading up on the Dynamic power management and there is a note:

**ATI PowerPlay technology consists of numerous power saving features. Not all features may be available in all ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series graphics cards.
