System Specs

good card for $100 - $200 price range?

I currently have a 9800GTX+ in my system, along with a phenom 9950 and 4GB of RAM (manufacturers escape me atm, I'm not at the machine in question )

What would be a good card in the $100-$200 price range.
A card that overclocks easily (or is already overclocked) is a plus.

Or should I just upgrade the phenom?

Upgrade Phenom to 955BE, then sell the 9950 and the 9800GTX+, then get 5850.

For $200 you can get two HD5750 crossfired, for $130-150 you can get a single HD5770.

But you should really switch that Phenom I, at least for an overclocked Athlon II X4.

System Specs

A GTX 260 core 216, HD 4870-4890, HD 5770 will all be single card solutions that should be twice as fast as your 128core 9800gtx+

GTX 260 has 216Cores vs 9800gtx+, and you can always get a GTX 280 for 180-200 bucks on forums or ebay and it has 240core.

HD 5770 is a little slower then most high end dx10 cards being the GTX 260 HD 4870 and Hd 4890 but when overclocked it exeedes there performance and offers dx11.

System Specs

A HD5770 is similar to the performance of a GXT260 192sp(a little faster) and about 10% slower than the GTX260 216sp

I'ma say wait for the G300 to come out, your 9800GTX+ is still a good card, wait for the G300's to come out and you should be able to pick up a midrange G300 or a HD5850 for about 200.

If your buying a card thats supposed to last you for a while just wait until more DX11 cards come out and the price of AMD's DX11 cards drop

Upgrade the CPU to a Phenom II. It will be noticably better and by the time you want more performance there will be more video cards to choose from.

I would save ur money. I have the 5770s and they are not that big a deal over the 9800GTX+.

Wait a bit to see what shows up next.(your system is already a good one)

Definitely!

That old Phenom Quad is like a P4.... *not really but the performance of that chip is horrid.*

Get a Phenom II and look at graphics cards later

Do you have current specs? 32 or 64 bit OS ? Amount of ram ? The biggest improvement I have made so far is going from 32 bit to 64 bit OS. I am assuming you are trying to bump up your FPS ?

9800GTX+ is equal to GTS 250 which is equal to 4850 (more or less, of course). Would you guys recommend a 5770 as an upgrade to a 4850? Probably not. It's a mostly horizontal movement, with only a piecemeal performance gain. The main benefits would be lower power consumption and DX11, but it's just too little of a performance boost to possibly recommend.

The 4890 would be the best performer in your price range, but with a Phenom I I'm not sure it is wise. I also have a PH1 and see no need to go above a 4850 with it without wasting the potential. Grab a 955BE CPU like recommended earlier. Then when the 5850 is at $200 or less (hopefully Nvidia competition will drive it down to there by the summer) grab one.

I wouldn't buy a pre-DX11 card right now.
Not with the expected fast adoption of DX11 in both game development and computing software.

In fact, I would gladly switch my crossfired HD4890 for a pair of HD5770s or even a single HD5850. I wouldn't be surprised to see the HD5770 easily beating a HD4890 in games launched in 6 months.

I agree... change that cpu. On the gfx.... right now the 4890 I feel is the best bang for the buck right now but is not dx11.
