MSI makes core unlocking official!

http://www.msi.eu/unlockcore/

As you can see, on select motherboards with 785G chipset, they are officialy "allowing" us to unlock the blocked Phenom II x3 cores.
Now, i wonder, what AMD will say?

P.S.
I hope those are not old news o_O

Its news to me bro. Sounds awesome. Doubtful AMD will make a big fuss about it. They have bigger things to sell.

It's old news. They've been marketing core unlocking for several months now.

Do you think AMD is secretly approving this to encourage more people to buy the 550BE and 720BE instead of the Intel counterparts as the chips might be more powerful than what they paid for?

its quite possible it steals a little thunder from Intel buy a triple core its better in truely multithread apps then a dual core and might just become a quadcore its win win for YOU the consumer

the dual core approach is more likely step right up get a decent dualcore CPU that will handle your everyday computing tasks with ease but for a little extra the cherry on top if u will if you you might just get a quadcore from a dual core how awesome would that be

and so on down the line with the sempron becoming a dualcore etc etc

I don't think so, honestly AMD started the whole tri core thing to improve the amount of marketable chips they got out of wafers, they come disabled for many reasons. It's a risk, and some times take a lot of time to realize that some are unstable, my brothers 550, is 100% stable with all 4 unlocked all the way up to 90% load, but if you got to 91-100% load you get BSOD's. And it happens at the worst times, sometimes. It happened to him in the middle of a clan match . To some people it's worth it. To me, I'd rather goose up the voltage and run the thing @ 3.9, and thats what he ended up doing.

I think it's just a marketing gimmic to try and steal some thunder, as they now have a serious contender from Intel on budget value. In all I don't think this will work very well. I belive OEM's and even Apple will begin to buy the hell out of the new clarkdale chips, and budget conumers are soon to follow.
