EVGA Dual LGA-1366 Motherboard Pictured with Chipset Cooling
EVGA showed of its almost-ready dual LGA-1366 high-end workstation motherboard at the ongoing CES event. The motherboard pictured sports a component cooling covering all its vital areas except for one of the CPUs' VRM areas, it gives a fair idea about what the final product could look like. The board itself was detailed earlier.
The chipset cooler design borrows heavily from single-slot graphics cards. A monolithic baseplate covers the northbridge Intel 5500(?), ICH10-class southbridge, and the two NVIDIA BR-03 bridge chips. The heatsink becomes taller over one of the CPU sockets' VRM area. Air is drawn in from the round intake, and pushed out near the expansion slots. the gaps between the expansion slots will do their part in directing the hot air away. ![]() Source: PC Games Hardware Last edited by btarunr; Jan 11, 2010 at 12:56 PM. |

It's interesting - while one CPU's VRM has a heatsink, other does not.

CPU backplate like those will interfere with some of the aftermarket cooling like Noctuas.

Heh, that must be the first VGA cooler on a motherboard. Looks funny, but it's skinny enough and already invented, so why not use it and save money

New records anyone? Two LN2 cooled i7 980X CPUs + possibly two LN2 cooled dual GPU Fermi cards in quad-sli = 100% pure kickass.

Details are pretty think on the ground right now, but rumours have it that it'll support Xeon CPUs - I'd like to i7 support, but unfortunately it's the waiting game.

You would need 2 chips that support Dual QPI for them to work in this board

The Northbridge cooler looks like ripped from GeForce 6800 Ultra.

For some reason, the coolers on these dual socket motherboards are always hideous. Come on, add a little flair.

Well, the average target user of workstation/server boards doesn't masturbate while looking at a PCB. Besides, most boards look fairly normal, Skulltrail and this are the only two I can think of that look a bit silly. Even my Z7S looks "normal", and that one is aimed at a similar enthusiast market.

From what I understand, this board is meant to work with Bloomfield Core i7's, but I could be wrong. The board takes standard DDR3 memory, so no problems there, but you might be limited to what size modules you can fit, but again, not confirmed.
Too many missing details at the moment to make heads or tails of this board. |
