I can't stand Shift, Dirt 2 is alright, and I never played Grid.

Shift on keyboard/mouse is virtually unplayable. You'll either be dealing with not being able to keep the car on the track at higher difficulties or at easy difficulties, you'll be annoyed by the assists. Either way, I'd never recommend it.

The only bad thing I have to say about Dirt 2 at this time is that the selection of cars is somewhat limited. There's lots of difficulty settings which you can use to make specific events easier that you are struggling with.

Its good, aint grid or dirt 2 but its definitely the way to go for nfs. I was sick of the open world, ricer and heavily tuned cars. I just wanna get in and race. At least its a good game, compared to the pile of poo that ea was cranking out. But like they said above, make sure uv got a controller!

I guess that's really a personal choice.
When it first came out, it was almost too buggy to play, but since the fix came out, it's not bad at all.
It's not in the same league as DiRT2, but I find it better than Grid, by a mile.
As for controllers.. that's probably personal as well.
I have no issues whatsoever using the keyboard

It is, however, limited in longevity.. Once you've gone through the scenarios a few times, you're unlikely to go back to it very often.
Just IMHO anyway

If you either have a controller or racing wheel then the game is great. However like most racing PC games on PC if you don't have those peripherals then the experience decreases tenfold. I have a Logitech G25 steering wheel and using a decreasing aggressiveness AI mod to get the best out of this game, and its simply stunning. I wish clutch was a little better in this game, but other then that its a perfect mix of racing simulation and arcade fun.

I am a racing game fan. I played every racing game on keyboard. I find Shift to be very much playable on keys. Game is also a big step forward since NFS:NW, Carbon... .

U can take a look here and check gameplay on keyboard (I use steer assist:low and ABS, otherwise is unplayable):

Edited: i find Shift more fun than Dirt2 anytime, bonus are great tracks like Spa, Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Laguna Seca and ofcourse legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Ive played Shift since the demo without a hitch. Playing the Dirt2 demo and wasnt interested but i did play Dirt and Grid all the way through. Those where great games but neither of them made me play for 11 hours straight like Shift did. I use a controller with no assists and difficulty high.

I wanted Grid to be awesome, but the bugs and just the menu interface itself turned me off. I really enjoy Shift though, especially after the patching. Shift is one of the better recent games in the NFS series imo, I have no regrets purchasing it.

Hmm..I dunno tbh, I use an xbox 360 controller for pretty much everything in-game like I do Burnout Paradise. I'm suprised ESC doesn't work...maybe spacebar or something else for pause to open the menu? I just hit Start on the controller and the menu comes up.

Maybe its just the first part of the game, when you can't exit at all. You' re forced to play the first race. I remember having a similar prob. Cause esc is definitely the default key for pausing to the the menu.

Logitech rumblepad? Well welcome to shift I had to get used to it too, it seems it takes forever to steer, you'll get used to it in the end. Once you play shift tho, good luck on going to play grid once more. You'll crash your car instantly with a simple lane changing move!

You know grid seems to react too fast when turning with the game pad, but now that I have played shift it's driving is much more realistic in certain ways. The games is flater and the not as cool looking yet I really like it. I like the best approach and color to teach you the game. I also like the cockpit look. It is a fun game even if it's pace is slower than grid it feels more realistic.

Grid was simply a better game for me then Shift. Grid has better car physics (for a game) and offered tracks that I liked more then in Shift. For me what turned me off was the car upgrading which made all the cars drive the same to me. Simply putthe stock cars are more fun to drive.

I am looking forward to Formula 1. This game is due in a few months time (or by the start of the season). I don't particularly like that type of racing game do to lack of variety of vehicles and the amount of car tweaking you have to do. But if CM adds an option to streamline that portion of game play it might be something worth while.

...There is a Gold Down Arrow on the menu. Look for the list. It is as follows: Home, Quick Race, Online, Driver Profile, Car Garage, Options, QUIT.
Just use the down arrow key to see QUIT.

I just got (2) games today, Need for Speed SHIFT and DIRT 2.

I like them both and they are very different.
I personally find it is harder to drive Dirt 2 cars but...I only have an hour playing time between both games so far.

I had a hard time finding both these games for the PC around my local area.
They were available for consoles ok but not for the pc.
I got lucky and found the last copies of both games at a local Game Stop store.
I tried Best Buy, Staples (a joke for software) and WalMart. No luck.
I am glad I found these games and it looks like I'll be having some fun for awhile.
