Heya all! Today in the morning my dad tried to power up his PC, and it doesnt respond to anything, its totally dead... Im trying to fix it, but I dont know if it can be the PSU..
How do I know if the PSU is totally dead??? I dont have any other PC near that I can switch the PSU to check it... Thanks a lot for the help!

This might sound strange but worth checking, my friends dad's pc died we put it down to the PSU but after buying a new one the pc still never powered on, it turned out to be the power button on the case (it died).
you can test to see if the power button is broke by using the reset button, just connect it to the mobo where the power switch would go. If the pc still dosen't power on after this then there is a very good chance the PSU has died. |

damn thats a shame
hmm i personly would think the PSU has died then but only because when i have had parts fail in the pc it has always still tryed to power up. I have even had a PSU that powered a pc and the screen, the screen would come on but no power to the pc lol. its a tough one to say the least.OOO have there been any power surges>? maybe a fuse has blown in the plug. |

Inless you have another pc to test it on then im not sure to be honest, I have seen odd things happen to tho such as the keyboard lights come on and the light on the PSU but the pc itself still never powered on, turned out to be a dead PSU.

Do you have any usb's connected? If you do remove them and just run the monitor, keyboard and mouse. See if that works...good luck

Hey! I connected the PSU on my PC and its working great.. So I unplugged all the cables except the 2 cables that gives power to the Mobo and the power switch of the case... It didnt turn on, but I realized while was looking inside that the southbridge became really really hot..
So I think that the problem is the Mobo.. What do you guys think?? It a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R.. Thanks a lot for all the help

Sounds like the board is dead. Too bad I didn't see this thread a couple hours ago, I could have told you the board was dead all along. Time to try for an RMA.
@Bo$$ Even dead ram, the board would still attempt to power on and post. EDIT!: Before totally declaring the board is dead, entertain me: Keep the power supply disconnected from the mobo, remove the battery, and leave it alone for 24 hours. Then once that time has lapsed reconnect everything and replace(replace not put the old one in) the battery. |
