Hmm? Wanna upgrade my GPU? whats better to go for guys? the 5770 or 4850, my concern is the 128bit on the 5770 vs the 256bit on the 4850, round about the same price here.

5770 is on par with the 4870 and the 5770 when overclocked is equall to a stock 4890

difference is 4850 is DX10 and 5770 is DX11

also another example 4770 is 128bit GDDR5 and it will match a 4850

because of one simple fact

128bit GDDR 5 = 256bit GDDR3

basically get the 5770 all you have to do is look at a review to see its the better choice

http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5770-review-test/14

dosent matter whats hes using the system for 5770 is new tech its faster and uses less power the only thing the 4850 has going for it price

4890 is old tech 5770 overclocked will match it just read the above review

for the price of the 2 5750s just suck it up and get a 5850 an overclocked 5850 will match a 5870 and if you search around newegg and other places have 5850s for $280ish

+ with 2 gpus id have to know what your powersupply is if your motherboard even supports crossfire etc etc

basically the 5850 = $290 for a good brand off newegg

2 5750s = $139 each = $280 its common sense that 1 faster gpu is better overall then 2 lesser gpus

If the 5850 is out of your price range, the 5770 is probably your ticket.

I wouldnt even consider 5750 x 2.... get the 5850 and be done with it. That 5850 oc'ed to 5870 speeds will do you fine for quite a long time. The 5850's are starting to drop in price, wait a few weeks, you should be able to pick one for a bit cheaper.

I would go for the 5770 any day over the 4850 or 4870, however I would consider the 4890 as it is a bit quicker only if it could be had a fair bit cheaper BUT only if you look at the small list of DX11 games that are due for release this year and see one that smacks "damn thats gonna be the best game of the year and I just gotta have it" then stick with the 5770 and DX11, of course you can still get the game and play it in DX10.1, however if you want a card that will last you 18 months plus then forget it and stick with the 5770 IMO.

I have just replaced 4850 with 5750 and 5750 rules. Much better overclocker plus DX11 for future games. When overclocked it can match 4870 that is enough for me.

Very interesting and conclusive, would I be right in saying that the 4850 is better in SM2 and therefore DX9 games and is beaten in SM3 therefore in DX10? I suppose thats the optimisations for an older technology playing there.

SM2 was DirectX 9b and earlier. I don't know of any current games that still use SM2.0.
