Sapphire Readies Radeon HD 5450 Low-Profile Accelerator
Sapphire is ready with its entry-level DirectX 11 compliant graphics card based on the new ATI Radeon HD 5450. The design is a low-profile capable single-slot accelerator, with passive cooling for silent operation. This gives us a rough idea of how the move to 40 nm process helped AMD's lowest-end GPUs. This particular card has 1 GB of DDR2 memory across a 64-bit wide memory interface. As a first sighting, you can see ATI-branded memory chips on this card. Display connectivity includes DVI-D, HDMI (with 7.1ch audio), and D-Sub which protrudes out. A set of low-profile brackets is also bundled. The Cedar GPU bundles 80 stream processors and a 64-bit wide memory interface. Expect the card to be released soon, at a price targeting the sub-$50 segment.

I have a friend wanting a cheap card, and I think this would be a winner for him.

^^ 1 GB of DDR2 memory across a 64-bit wide memory interface
it's not for gaming in HD , but it will be superior to HTPC.. many people will love it

didn't the picture of this model BTA posted in the hottest graphics card thread have a different heatsink design? though this one in a HTPC would be more space efficient

I would think the MSI one is the best with 1GB+GDDR5+?

Really disappointed. I was expecting 200sps/64bit gddr5 for the 5450/5550 series :/
It's high time Ati and Nvidia did something with the igp/low level solutions - even Intel has caught up to them

Why 1GB junk video RAM, why not 256MB or 512MB of GDDR3 can be a lot better, videos don't need 1GB or games this card is not so why doing this better sales i guess.
Yes Intel is not that bad any more i currently use G31 on Ubuntu and Intel open source driver is more than excellent, i use system 256MB as video RAM on HD resolution and is pretty much all i need so why upgrading with some low level life card? Last edited by filip007; Feb 4, 2010 at 12:50 AM. |

By the way guys I assume the 5 series cards come with high memory as it may help with eyefinity.
Would make sense anyway.

512MB would be overkill for 3 screens in anything but gaming. THe only reason this has 1GB is cause it doesnt cost em much extra, and thousands of morons will buy it cause "more ram = faster"

It's pointed at the sub-50 dollar crowd, which are HTPC/Websurfer users. This would easily be one of the top cards in that segment, especially at the low profile level.

Leave it to the vendors to drag GPU DDR2 from the grave and into the DX11 era!

Simple. First, it is a HD5450, not a HD5550, it shouldn't be necessarily faster - It probably aims lower. It has the same number of SPs (80) and runs DDR2 or DDR3 vs. the DDR3 the HD4550 runs. If it has slower clocks on memory or cores, it will be slower.
