Sins Of a solar Empire: Diplomacy Bugfix thread

as the title states, SOASE: D has been released.

Funnily enough, its buggy

On one system i've confirmed, running at max specs (maximum in game settings, including AA at 1920x1200) results in the game constantly crashing. its hitting the well know 2GB wall for 32 bit, non large address aware applications.

A simple fix is in this thread HERE
This fix will not work if you have a 32 bit OS, without modifications to your operating system - see the link above.

a program to monitor usage to see if its causing your crashes is HERE
The game will crash at 1.75GB of ram usage, should you be experiencing this bug (they reserve 256MB of address space for video ram, it seems)

Patching the exe doesnt seem to cause any problems, although we havent tested in multiplayer yet. It shouldnt break anything.
You will have to re-patch every time they update the game (so keep a backup of your old .exe file in case of problems)

Any other bugs/crashes related to this game, let me know! might as well put it all on here for the poor sods googling problems with the game.

Sins of a Solar Empire? I'm surprised it would have this problem. It is a pretty simple game conceptually. It must have a memory leak or something.

The only time it wouldn't work is if checksums are checked. Changing that bit causes the checksum on the executable to change. If the multiplayer aspects of the game uses a checksum to validate the file, there could be problems.

If there is a problem, just run the application again, uncheck the box, and save. It should be back to the way it was--no harm done.

I really need to install it again. I just got the Trinity expansion.

Haven't tried Sins of a Solar Empire, I heard that it is extremely time consuming.

On huge maps, it is. On small maps, it doesn't take real long.

trinity isnt an expansion, its the first game + entrenchment + diplomacy

As for the memory issue, entrenchment sits around 1.6GB on the same machines that hit 1.75+ in diplomacy - it seems the extra units/textures push it just over the limit.

its a great game, with the limitation that MP is locked at 1x speed - in SP i sit at 2x/4x speed, and the game takes a lot less time, obviously. (15 hours realtime for an 8 player game is quite possible)
