Don't know too much about the 5700 line but the 5850 is a pretty good deal if you overclock since the latest batch of reference boards overclock like mad getting you 5870 speeds for free.

For me personally. the 5770 is great, if you don't mind playing on max with no aa. Performance wise, the 5850 is the best buy. I had high hopes for the 5830 but, pricing seems to kill it off (nothing for certain though)

My X1950GT Can do that with ANY game except a hacked version of GTA4.

What kind of value are these cards besides DX11 really?

I've tried newer cards in my same board, and honestly the visual difference is meaningless. I suppose my eyes aren't working like they used too.

I guess for bragging rights go for the best one, for the best bang for your buck go for the cheapest that overclocks the best comfortably.

What system/video card setup are you currently running?

On 1280x1024, I might believe you, but even then modern games like Dirt 2 will not be smooth with a card from 4 generations back, even if it is the top liner.

nah, not even at that would he. my his x1950GT outperforms my 7800GTX a good bit but, even i at 1280x1024 cannot max most games. i mean i struggle with css so i know his card isn't going to be running max/no aa in dirt 2, crysis, gta4, all the stalkers, dragon age origins, COH, mass effect, etc the list goes on and on.

@OP i'd have to say HD 5770 looks best bang/buck but dam that HD 5850 just gives alot more but nearly double hte price i wouldn't get it...maybe u should include "wait" as an option in ur poll lol as that's what i would do.

he shouldn't be touching any of the 5xxx series yet in my opinion he should do a complete upgrade of his rig before deciding to buy a graphics card.

1440x900.

To what end would lying on this forum get me??

I'm simply stating what works for me, you can take it however you wish, but I won't lie here. That would be counter productive.

Have you experience with this hardware?

Dirt 2 was very hard to get at working frame rates, not sure if I ever did at max settings, but I know it plays because I kept it in the archive.

I never said I could run EVERY game on MAX, LOL.

Remember, this is max settings with no AA.

GTA4 is the one I cannot play without HEAVY modification.

I may have over 300 games, but I don't play them all.

IMHO the newer cards still are not worth the upgrade. Just my opinion.

The software has a long way to go.

Dragon Age origins is the only one on that list I can max settings and run AA on 16 and AF on 4. I havn't checked the frame rate as I am too interested in just playing, and it is fine as long as I am not encoding video in the background.

Havn't tried COH or Stalkers.

I only play Dragon Age, the others I just downloaded and tried.

Mass effect 1 I played maxed no AA, didn't try it I didn't have this CPU and motherboard. Have Mass effect 2 to try, but busy with Dragon Age atm.

You say I can't max most games, but yet you list the top most demanding games out there.

Most games to me are the 106 top of my favorites in my archive.

You have a 7800GTX, not a x1950gt, your card is much more limited by its lack of hardware and by no means speaks for mine, nor is an apples to apples comparison.

Of course if hardware lasted this long and people were actually satisfied for once, who would make a living off of it?

LOL. I get your point. You are taking what I said WAY out of context.

Yep, the only thing you need to worry about is if a game will support SM3 or not. I put my old x1950pro back into my work computer and it is an extremely capable card.

I didn't want to upgrade my cpu to support the new games, but I had to!

I hope as you say I don't have to upgrade my video card for that reason! (I will eventually )

Why do I need to worry if it will support it or not?

So far I havn't had any issues.

Me neither yet. But that's good news, I suppose most newer games will support the old shader model then. I know I ran into problems with my old X800 (SM2.0), which was the reason I upgraded to the 1950pro. Either way I'm going to get quite a few more years out of this card.
