The dk is sexier but loses to the s1283 a couple of degrees due to the nickel cover. Looks or raw performance?

My fingerprints are permanently atop my DK...and the Fan that came with it is Loud (way louder than anything else in my system by far)
I still feel it's worth it though...Just put a nice SilenX Fan for it and your good to go.

Do you have it running at max speed or where the bios will adjust it. I've had mine sitting next to me and can barely hear it.

I had it on Cool and Quiet On low I'd say it Ran about 24db and at least 40 db on full load....
The Silenx Fan I replaced The fan that came with it runs at Half the RPM's with the same Airflow right around 1200RPM max.. It was quiet at first but I'd say about 20 days later it was loud

Plus I was never to thrilled about the white LEDs

I've used my 1283 passive on a few chips..the last one was an E6750 @ 3.6GHz (1.45v) and it got hot but not as hot as the stock Intel cooler and obviously the Xiggy was miles quieter.

Stock fan is 1 - 2200RPM and should come in at around 78CFM when running at full speed....but, the fan is a PWM 4-pin design so if you allow it, the board will control the speed and should keep things relatively quiet.

Also, here's a review of the HDT-1283....it shows you a few things including dB levels.

http://www.frostytech.com/articlevie...id=2233&page=4

Bottom Line: You will enjoy either the DK or the 1283...no matter what one you get.

I highly doubt it's a couple degrees, probably a tenth of a degree.

Ive had both the 1283 and the DK - Ive seen no temperature difference going from the S1283 to the DK, only aesthetical improvements. Fans quieter too.

Aint me who said it, I read it somewhere when I was shopping for mine. Didn't matter though, the DK cools my e6750 pretty well. Worth all its hype, but a victim too, cause people tend to expect too much from a $40 cooler. I only wish you could turn off the damn led though.

If only they were red, cause my theme is red! I might take them off and mod them to put them somewhere else.

what's the difference from the balder and the DK???
is the balder more powerful???
because it seems don't fit my extremely tight budget...
$40 is top...

thinking about the IGSC-200, or Hyper TX-3
but from the benches the 1283 is outperforming them...

I'd rather take the DK or the 1283. They are the best performers price/perf ratio. If you want xigmateks best, there is the Thors Hammer. If i were you I'd consider the Coolermaster Hyper 212+, its a pretty good performer, less the bells and whistles, but performs well, even if you plan to take an i7 one day. I saw a shootout once, between all the top dogs and the CM H212+ performed really well, especially for the price + it comes ready for all sockets, if I am not mistaken.

is it better than the 1283???
if its on par..
yeah i'll get the 212+
but if it's not quite a good performer so 1283 it is..

Hyper TX-3 anyone???

You re better off with either the 212+ or the DK if you are planning to get the tx3.

And for the answer to your question, the 212+ is pretty much on par with the DK on the 775 platform. I ve never seen a test with the DK on an i7 platform though. But I've heard it performs well. The 212+ did its job well though, even on 1156.
