i think the problem can never be solved if you give the means only to the OP - people are just stupid.

reporting and warnings/infractions seem to be more work than it's worth.

mostly it's just simple edits like basic typos or similar

started initial beta test with 2 volunteers + all mods, lets see how it goes

This looks like a good idea - will improve the quality of the forum whilst keeping the workload for current mods steady. I'd be happy to volenteer for this role if you're still after people to help

Have people posted to different topics then there won’t be allot of people looking through the same posts, So the chance of duplicate changes is minimal? Bit like the mods have sections?

well i'm a boring old devil who never gets drunk anymore or smokes, so i would say i'm trustworthy ,but no i don't think giving one person a free for all would be wise, if i see any spelling mistakes/missed letters in the reviews, i just pm the writer with a pic and link not to be awkward, i just do it to help ,but as you know you can't change a thread title once it's been answered ,so it would be nice to sort out such things if you make a mistake

Having a report button for the title would be the best bet as while the op may not notice someone will. One thing though what about the different spelling words like color/colour if an non American edit mod was on could he/she spell it the way he/she spells it? Im probably late but id also like to throw my hat into the ring.

I don't think it should be a problem. The people involved with the changes should be competent enough that either change would be acceptable, so the last change submitted is the change that stays.

Plus, no one is perfect, so it is entirely possible that one person spots one spelling error, but misses another in the same title. So a second person would spot the second error and make a second change.

color is fine either way, i doubt mods will waste their time making such changes.
the idea is to fix "halp please" threads or ones with "obvious mispeeling"
good spelling = good for google because it finds our threads when people are asking it = good for everyone needing help

Can't this be used but be made only visible to those allowed to edit titles? This way, a 2nd "editor" wanting to edit a title would see someone had already corrected it.

no way to store that info. there is a moderator log attached to the thread but that info isnt visible when editing thread titles the quick way.

in any thread listing you just double click the background of the box that contains the thread title and it magically puts an edit box where the title is, edit text, click outside of the edit box and it saves.
if mods go into a thread and click "edit thread" in the thread tools dropdown they will see previous changes, but thats much much slower than the way i described above

Too bad: that could have work, i guess

In that case, and this could possibly be worse ..., why not make it so that only the 2nd way you described is allowed for title editing?

if I read that right, I see why we had said issue. We were both editing at the same time, by the stamp, but the "previous edits" wasn't visible at that time

because it takes a long time, adds 2 page loads and requires a mod that reads the displayed listing
i'd rather have a case of double edit

that's correct. when you load the page with the thread list it fetches the thread titles,it does not reload the thread title from the server when you start editing. and it also does not send your edits to all users having that page open to magically replace the text on their screen

I didn't assume it would auto update, I just meant that I think it wont happen a lot, unless it happens to be two mods ninja editing each other

It's not that big of a deal and it rarely ever occurs. I imagine the outcome would be the same as it was earlier with both titles being acceptable and it not mattering which is used.

Precisely. Titles will be changed only in the case of spelling errors or where such title is ambiguous as to not adequately describe the thead topic. So in the event of duplicate changes it would more be a case of two people doing the same work at the same time without either one knowing about the other.

maybe there could be additional low-risk capabilities and this could be used as some kind of stepping stone to moderator status ?
Yoar eye camcer is of no koncern.

Perhaps instead force the use of a spell check under threat of a "bad spellar" title or badge? Really every major and most minor browsers have spell check options.

well i vote Black Panther as one, as i did over at general nonsense (i can't vote for myself )
but as i said i'm usually about before evryone in the usa (i'm in the uk),so i'll leave it at that
just a thought though boss, if someone edits said title, it would say at the bottom of the post last edited by xyz ,can't that part be removed or made invisible?
