Decent Laptop

Hey guys, I'm looking for a decent laptop for school. It doesn't have to be fancy or insanely powerful, just something that will ease the transition from a desktop to a laptop. I don't really have an idea of what I want so just shoot me a PM with what you have, or even a link to a good deal on a laptop. My current budget is unknown but it is above $500, probably around the $700 range.

I've got an HP dv3t (specs are to the left on the right side of every specification) that I might want to swap out for something new. Been great to me for school with no problems whatsoever except for the original HDD dying (which I replaced myself). Still under warranty from HP as well. LMK if you're interested.

The SSD is a plus but for that price I would try find a Core i3/5/7 lappy, sorry.

That's the first time I've been 5.1 speakers on a laptop... but again, for that kinda money I'm not looking to buy anything other than the newer Arrandale(i3)+ laptops. I'll be using headphones with the laptop most of the time so I'll never be able to take advantage of the surround sound. You seem like you love the feature though, I'm sure it's awesome.

My main goal in this thread is to either find one heck of a deal on a Core 2 laptop or just go buy a new Asus laptop with some new architecture.

Oh, if you're looking to buy new, I'd consider the Asus UL series. It's not a gaming machine by any means, but it's absolutely beautiful for school use. Thin, light, 10 hour battery life actual (as reported by me), Core 2 Duo, and 4GB DDR3.

I have the 13" UL30A myself, but Asus makes the 14" UL80 and 15" UL50 versions too.

EDIT: I also want to add that new, you might be a bit over budget, but you can find great deals used. I bought my UL30A used for $525 off of ebay ($650 on newegg)

No it's 4 speakers and a sub. I believe it's 2.1 with a tweeter and a midbass on top and the sub on the bottom. However they did it, it vibrates the coffee table.

4 speakers and a sub is a 4.1

The first number, the integer, denotes how many satellite speakers there are in the system. The number after the decimal denotes how many subwooferes there are in the system.

Negitive. 4.1 is how many channels of audio it has. 4 channels plus another for the sub. 4 speakers, in this case, is 2 channels with a tweeter and midrange each plus the sub = 2.1
