Now, if an AIB partner was smart, they would use the 5970 vapor chamber cooler and stick the other set of VRM under there and let people have at it. Give it two 8-pins and people might be able to see what a correctly done 5970 can do on air with that vapor chamber.

There's a probability that the vapor chamber IP is owned by Sapphire, and they just let ATI use it in the default cooler because.. well, it's ATI.

It's supposed to have 8+8+6-pin power connections.

More pics to come up tomorrow on the site.

And if you have trouble believing what Sampsa said, just google him around a bit. At least I trust what he says, no bs from that one.
first off trust me i know who sampsa is he is one of the elite group that been aroun d longer than even me. that card doesn't look like anything more than a 4gb 5970 nothing special at all hell 8+8+6 could be a testing stage of the card sapphire has already gotten low leak chips you can't get any better binning all ATi has done is given free range on the cards design this is nothing more than a MARS card hell there isn't even proof it will be mass produced yet this could be an ATi MARS card

Interesting news, the upcoming Nvidia GTX 480 will be between the HD 5850 and HD 5870 in gaming performance. Nvidia does not plan on releasing anything faster due to heat problems and instability. So anybody planning on getting one of these dont expect to get much overcocking out of them.

No source, nothing backing this "news" up. Made up? Cool story bro! You must take people here for idiots. Then again, even an idiot would know this interesting news is false.

Here's some interesting news. I made a space ship out of popsicle sticks!

Taken the logic from the post I was talking about. Very very well. It can even play Crysis at a billion FPS.. IN SPACE!

Anyways, I was just pointing out that it's poor judgement to post made up garbage and saying it's news. Look, it made me go off topic! I've been corrupted.

Now getting back to this card, it looks like Asus is making a big expensive dual card much like they did with the Mars. I don't think this is AMD's response to Fermi. This is Asus's offering for the Uber 1337 overclocking class. AMD hasn't realeased any information on any more newer cards other than the Eyefinity 6 editition.

After couple of inquiries we found out that even though you can get estimated performance figures based on what partners are looking at right now, these are still not final as Nvidia is yet to give out a word about the final clocks of the GTX 470. The safest guess is that it will be around 20 to 25 percent faster than the Geforce GTX 285, which puts it somewhere between the HD 5850 and the HD 5870.

Name here
So if there's any truth to this information then it sounds like the GTX480 will be equal to the HD 5870 in performance. Boy sounds like NV will have problems pricing these Fermi's IMO.

I hope that nvidias GTX480 wont be better than a 5970, so i wont need to upgrade and spend more moneys, though the GTX480 should be better than a OCed 5870 for f$uck sake

lets hope so, but then again lets not lol according to nvidia's q4 2010 fiscal yr or w/e they still made just as much revenue as before so they're still fine. I actually am hoping that Nvidia's GTX 480 is just barely better than the HD 5870. Then ATi can, if needed, lower prices and still win this gen overall, which i want ATi to do, hold off nvidia a whole generation so they can rake in cash for R&D on their next gen architecture.

I believe that the GTX 470 and GTX 480 will beat both the HD5850 and HD5870 in performance, thats coming from a ATI fanboy, I think the GTX 470 will be in front of the HD5870 and the GTX 480 will be behind the HD5970, this is just my opinion and I hope nvidia's new cards perform well, cause I want 2x GTX 480 in SLI, now that would be a crysis raper

I have an issue with the title of this thread. AMD aren't releasing this card ASUS are, I wonder if other manufacturer's will follow suit - even then is it AMD's answer?

It's a direct translation from the original news posted by Sampsa. I read that Sapphire is planning it's own card for CeBit.

Ares was pictured and 3DMark were shown by PCGames Hardware

"In difference to the Mars (Asus' dual GTX 285) the Ares won't be limited and is going to be produced and sold as long as there is a demand for the card. But given the expected price of 750 to 1000 Euros the card still transfers a feeling of exclusiveness.

In a first benchmark, 3DMArk Vantage Extreme, the card reached more than 14000 points in the Extreme setting (1920 x 1200 pixels 4x FSAA, a6x AF) - a real impressive results." -PCGames Hardware

Pictures are at PCG, couldn't get the pics to show here.

Edit: Kylzer seemed to have spotted it before me.

So is this Ares going to come under the 5970 moniker? Eitherway, it's a moot point really, like it matters anyway.

I think it's going to be just "Ares", at least their stand shows it having 2x5870 cores and the 5970 is not seen anywhere.
