I would be using it for gaming and HD video viewing. The computer has a 1kw PSU so I am not worried about overloading the PSU.
I say grab the 5850 and OC it to 5870 clocks.
It will certainly slaughter the 4870X2 in most games.
The 4870X2 is hot, power hungry and OCs like crap on air.

Even under water, I think the 5850 will OC far beyond a 4870X2 ever will.

I agree with Zubasa and i own a 4870X2.

The 5850 is more future proof also.

5850 - "Take steps TOWARDS the future not backwards" is my advice for pretty much everything PC wise.

One more thing, the 5850 CFX will scale tons better than 4870X2 Quad CFX, in case you ever want to upgrade that rig.

Actually the fps would be slightly better with 4870x2. DX11 and power consumption however favour the 5850

Yep +1. 4870X2 is more on par with 5870 than 5850 but your electricity bill would be cheaper and it's not as if 5850 doesn't perform well

The reason for everyone getting a 5850 is because they OC as good or better than the 5870 while is only around 5% behind at the same clocks.
Both OCed it is 5850 > 4870X2

I upgraded from a 4870x2 to a 5850, and with power consumption and heat alone it was WELL worth the upgrade. Not to mention dx11 and all that stuff.
