Interesting/Weird Idea of using both xbox and pc components

I don't know how or why, but this idea just came to me. Need some input on this idea.

My idea was to put an Xbox 360 and a computer of decent specs in 1 computer case. Let me know what you think. Obviously it would take quite a bit of work to get good airflow and to mount both the systems in the same case, but I'm willing to do a bit of work to get it done!

That would be interesting. But I'd gather it must be a really big case to fit those 2 poh inside but definitely doable. Nice idea really, you can have both hardware using up minimal space in say a living room.

yes if it make the xbox 360 cooler (heatwise) it should
you can say hey it's more reliable now and won't overheat
although if it's inside a case with a hot pc it'll probably break quicker

Thats why you need a case with very good airflow. And large enough btw, I'd be curious to know if you have already eyes upon said case. There might be some modding to do though, cause I figure a 360 isnt "small".

I think ive heard of someone doing something similar before.. not quite sure, sounds like a good idea, perhaps if u also had the option of building a ps3 into it also. Lian Li do a xbox 360 case:

Are AMD quad cores cooler than the i7's? Haven't really followed them.

If they aren't too much cooler, I would for sure put a triple or maybe even a dual core in it to keep the inside of the case cooler.

@assaulter: I've got a Cooler Master Sniper Black Edition here already, so I'm considering that.

Yeah the amd's are supposedly cooler, not sure though, I'm no amd specialist, but I suspect a few could correct me if I'm wrong. Just had a look at the sniper. Not too sure if it'll fit without any modding, but removing the HDD bays or the optical media bays could give some space.

I wish I had the money/job to do that! I don't have any money to pay for the components for the pc part as it is, so it's going to be more of a long term project.

Depends, but at the moment their TDP ratings are about the same. 95w for both low-med quad cores and 125 (amd) / 130 (intel) for higher end quad cores.

But note that socket 1156 motherboards do not have northbridge which reduces heat since there is one less heat source while maintaining the same TDP.

It will fit, I'm just not sure how. The pc components would go in first, then I would start getting the 360 components into place. I'm currently thinking of ways to mount the 360 components.

Sounds like a job for the Corsair 800D or that huge ass Rocketfish case.

Not a fan of either, and they're expensive. Since I have the sniper here and its a nice looking case, I'm going to try and work it out in this. Once I get a job I'll get some hardware for the pc part and get to work. Already have the 360 here, might work on a few adjustments that I know I'm going to need to do to it.

What do you think guys? Red or Green for the lighting and effects? I'm thinking green for the Xbox, but red since I'm going to be using AMD parts.

Money certainly is an issue as I don't even have the parts yet. I actually reviewed that first case and I must say that there is no room, especially for 2 motherboards.

Sorry for the slow loading, I seem to have forgotten to actually resize them.

It's more then possible.

Ever heard of Yoshi's Boxx?, its a system with a PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, NES, Atari and computer all in one case. It was showin off on TechTV back in the early 2000's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8SvMXkF6kM

So a 360 and PC in one case shouldn't be much of a problem, but of course as you mentioned, it will take some good cooling. A high end PC and 360 in one box will kick up some massive heat.

It's going to be a mid PC, can't afford another high end at the moment.

Ah ok, then it shouldn't be much of a problem, as long as you get a spacious enough case and are able to do your own modding.(the parts within the 360 will have to come out and you'll have to do you're own custom wiring.) then it shouldn't be a problem.

I could have sworn there was a case actually made exactly for this a few years back.

There is a chassis where you can install a main PC and then a mini itx pc in one. It's out of production now though.

http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Category.aspx?S=1115

Thermaltake Mozart.

If you can get one somehow now, it'd be the perfect case for this and will require little modding.

Kinda the idea I'm going for. Yes, I am able to do the wiring, already have the 360 apart and looks like I'm not going to have to do too much. Have to wire a new power switch, some longer HDD power cables, and then figure out how to bypass the onboard fan controller.

Well, something weird happened today! Microcenter made a huge in-store sale today on the motherboard I was wanting with a combo with an AMD cpu. I need help deciding which CPU to get with the motherboard. Is this the 965 worth it?
