Hmm.. I knew I wouldn't be dissapointed by ATI when I purchased my 5850 and XFX 5850. I was actually hoping nVidia would beat the 5970s

the power consumption alone makes this card a failure in my eyes, its crazy, if it were like 280 i could understand but 300+ . . . . .

I had 5850's in my basket at launch and held off. I wish I'd grabbed them. Launch price too..

3 of those in SLI w/ a heavily OCd processor. You'd need a 1.5kW psu. Not to mention an air conditioner in place of the side panel to keep the heat from remelting the steel

I'm not one to bitch about power consumption but this is crazy, the temps are insane when compared to 5870's. Infreakinsane..

yeah the temps are bad . . . . SLI =?

but the fan on the card is very powerful I don't think it will overheat before it sounded like a jet in your pc.

I said it a few weeks ago and I'll say it again. You wanna run these cards in tri-SLI? Get something like Fits' Mega rig. Otherwise, with summer here soon, EPIC FAIL.

Hmmm...I see no reason to replace my 285's yet. And if I do it'll be so that I can do eyefinity. Which means no nVidia anyway. Also, there is waaaay tooooo much heat and power draw.

im sorry but using the 9.12 drivers really has made the 5870 look like a chump.

For example in heaven 2.0 @ 1920x1200

the review gave it 27.1

im using 10.3 drivers and i get 39.4 which beats the 480.

Thats a huge difference, i cant believe that was overlooked.
We want to know how good the 480 is compared to a 5870 now (with latest drivers) not 3 months ago.

I will have to look around for a more complete reveiw.

Sorry but I had to skip the review because of the old ATI drivers. This would represent a wrong image in my head.

Nvidia definitely delivered on performance, but everything else about the card is quite sketchy. BTW I'm still selling my easy-bake solutions!

I am glad ATi fanboys will now cease posting "semiaccurate" website links that are BS now that the cards are on the table. Maybe I spoke to soon on the growing up part.

I am sticking with my 5870's thanks to the better pricing. Power consumption is not my worry. Initial cost to purchase the cards is my main concern. Nvidia will have to drop prices to move serious volume in this competitive market. Nvidia needs to drop them by $100 at least.

basically AMD has executed a Choke Hold Maneuver on Nvidia in the pricing market. AMD has a lead in DX11 sales and will continue to succeed and then will lower pricing of the first gen 5800 series with the Launch of the Second Gen 5800 Series. At Least is what I expect.

Without increasing volts it should be the default 320W under load.
