NVIDIA Announces the GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470 Graphics Cards
NVIDIA finally released the graphics cards it made many wait for: the DirectX 11 compliant GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470. The two were unveiled at the PAX East gaming event, in the United States, as publications were allowed to post reviews right away. The two are based on the NVIDIA GF100 GPU, built on the 40 nm process. The higher-end GeForce GTX 480 packs 480 shader units (now referred to by NVIDIA as "CUDA cores"), branched geometry processing along with multiple tessellation units, and a 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface to connect to 1536 MB (1.5 GB) of memory.
The GeForce GTX 470 is the more affordable part, it packs 448 CUDA cores, and a 320-bit GDDR5 memory interface to connect to 1280 MB (1.25 GB) of memory. Both models support new features by NVIDIA, such as CUDA 3.0, faster PhysX acceleration, Stereoscopic 3D, 3D Vision surround multi display technology, as well as support for OpenCL and DirectCompute 5.0. While the GeForce GTX 480 has a suggested retail price of US $499, the GTX 470 is suggested to be priced at $349, although final pricing set by board partners could vary. NVIDIA is initially making tens of thousands of these cards, which should be available worldwide a little after April 12th.

Maybe not curse or write in caps on news page? And ATI is alright after these.
Want to see what GTX 470 draws in W1zzard's test bench, then I'm do with then.

Sure its slightly faster but its also expensive, runs hot, many people will need better more expensive PSU's=more money, and you need 2 of them to run multiple(3+) screens. No room for overclocking and its noisy. Also it doesnt do lossless audio so AMD is better for HTPC. So yeh it doesnt look that good for me, no way im selling my 5870 to get one.

If I am not wrong, the current 5xxx comes all the way from 3xxx, and the 3xxx was hot. So, we should expect Nvidia's current gen to be hot like hell, and with evolution, the new major revision will be a hit (think of 4xxx), whereas ATI will be releasing new architecture in 6xxx, so while ATI is reaping everything this gen, the next gen tables will turn.

I'm guessing that the GTX490, the one with 512 cores is just around the corner. But nvidia still have to wait longer for the perfect welds to be gather in large quantities. Until then they will just sell us some defective ones by the name of GTX480 and GTX470...
ATI 5830 anyone? ... |

There is an interesting part to this. While they keep throwing console ports at us they also began not to worry too much about the game performance on PC itself. If you compare performance of MW2 and BFBC2 you will know what I mean. After selling my gaming PC Im running MW2 flawlessly on a shitty 8600GT while BF is unplayable (not to mention the beta ran shitty on my gaming PC). Why suddenly theres a game like BFBC2 which doesnt shock with GFX that much but still eats the shit out of a PC that runs like a rocket on MW2 ? I get this feeling that they didnt even bother to test it on a PC during development. They totally ported it gave us it as a beta without any test and this time its lagging the crap out of most computers.

Just because a game doesn't "look" graphically better doesn't mean it isn't doing more graphics wise.

So far I only know 3 or 4 very good game engines like the Source one (even it's very old, you can play a game even with the shitiest card at max settings and the game still looks good), Unreal Engine 3 (even if it has some problems with AA, but those are mainly from bad implementation and again, the laziness of developers), Dunia Engine (very good effects and details) and the one from Dragon Ages (I forgot it's name)...The rest are just game engines made primary for consoles, and when ported on PC gives terrible performance. |

Play nice fellas, or I'll be handing out infractions. This WILL be the only warning.
