NVIDIA Posts GeForce 197.41 WHQL Drivers for GeForce 400 Series

NVIDIA released version 197.41 of its GeForce driver suite, specifically for the DirectX 11 compliant GeForce 400 series GPUs. These drivers are WHQL-signed, and come in time for the market-availability of GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 graphics cards. Although NVIDIA didn't mark out any significant changes to this version, it bundles PhysX system software v9.10.0129, and on-chip HD audio driver v1.0.9.1. These drivers enable support for CUDA 3.0 and OpenGL 3.2. A proper release-notes document from the company is awaited for more details.

How's that for service, official drivers for cards that are still not available and won't be in any great quantity, notice how the 480 price has gone up at most major US retailers, supply must be REALLY bad.

So is this for 400 series only? Not older cards?

EDIT: Nevermind, I stopped being lazy and looked for myself. 197.13 is still the WHQL driver for older 200 series.

Release Notes are available here: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...ease_Notes.pdf

Looks like Nivida's link is still pointing to the 197.13 release notes.

These drivers must have the new "Anti-Meltdown" software with them. That way it will power down Fermi if radiation levels are too high. lmao

A news item on drivers and it still ends up with jokes about Fermi's heat.

"OMG ROFL Fermi is hot and can be likened to a cooking implement, LOLZ"

Over it.

Maybe they are those are the ATI fanboys that took a beating from the 8800GTX days? They're still hurt and are kicking Nvidia while they're down.

I wonder if these drivers offer any increased performance for the 40o series.

Conversely, Nv fanboys still living in the glorious past? Just playing devils advocate. And for the record, I had a 8800 GTX and it rocked

Fanbois of any company/product are f#£king morons if you ask me. Can't see far enough past their own sad pathetic lives to be objective and make a choice that makes the most sense for them financially. Because you can be damned sure the company they worship couldn't care less about their loyalty; as long as their money keeps lining the pockets of their shareholders - job done.

I wonder how much additional performance Nvidia will be able to squeeze out of driver updates. I'd ask anyone with a 470 / 480 to test them, but they are few and far between.

I guess I'll be one of the guinea pigs to try it on a non 400 series card with a couple of 260's. See how it does folding, playing BFBC2, and monitor general IQ and thermal performance compared to the 197.25WHQL and the 197.15BETA.

If I had the money available ATM (Which is not the case for the time being) I would buy a couple or four GTX 480. Why? Simply because when you're looking for the better performing GPU you're not looking for Heat Dissipation, Peak Wattage, Price or Noise Level, you're just looking for Performance, and the GF100 GPU beat Cypress, even if it's by 1% so please, the jokes about the heat produced by the GF100 are just the cries of the ones which condemn the ugly side of the history rather than complimenting the good side of it.
BTW I regularly build and sell PCs, specially Gaming and Workstations, I've used the HD5870 as a video card in my builds very often and I recognize Cypress might, but right now Fermi took the crown away.

Which is why I didn't post them. RN for 197.13 was there all along.
