Notebook cooling question?
ok just got a hp pavilion dv5-1004nr notebook
http://www.compusa.com/applications/...730&CatId=4948 no i didnt get it there. the vista crashed and my brother in law gave it to me because he bought a new laptop. any way i put windows 7 premium home 64bit and works fine. my question is in cooling settings what is the difference between passive and active and what setting should i have it set too. it does tend to run a bit hot. the processor is set to 5%-100% both plugged in and battery. someone help this is my first laptop and not too familiar with laptop settings.

active means the fan turns on. passive means its off and it dissapates heat using hopes and dreams. If it gets hot set cooling to active.

um depends if you have it set to throttle down the proc (ghz & voltage wise) I dont see why not. On te flip side though the fan doesnt need that much power. especially if the RPM's change.

The power that fan is pulling can't be enough to make an appreciable difference in battery life other than maybe a minute or two. Charging your battery is better than replacing a baked proc.
