Step-Up to GTX470 or GTX480?

I've got a GTX295 that I paid $499.99 for in March.

That means I can Step-Up to the GTX470 for free or I can Step-Up to the GTX480 for $15.

Obviously the GTX470 being free is nice, but is the GTX480 worth the $15 more? Plus the GTX480 would outperform the GTX295, but also consume more power than the GTX470 and GTX295. However, the GTX470 is much more reasonable with power consumption, being far less than the GTX295 with only a minimal performance loss, which could probably be made up by overclocking.

Hmmm...I'm stuck. What would you do?

I'd go with the GTX 480 for $15 more! You pretty get twice the memory buffer and some extreme performance in tesselation!

Well I guess this thread was kind of pointless because it turns out I paid $400 for the GTX295 not $500 like I thought, I paid $500 for the other GTX295 I bought toward the end of last year.

So with the GTX470 still being a free upgrade and the GTX480 being $115 more, I went with the GTX470.

Sorry I wasted your time, but thank you all for the help anyway.

Good call. Now it's time to wait for prices to drop a little and you can always pickup a 2nd 470.

EDIT:
Not sure if you made a great decision though seeing as though you put $400 into the 295. Could have got a gtx470 for like $300.

Nah, no more dual-GPU setups for me. Too much hassle and the performance of one card is good enough for me. Hell, I'm still probably going to use the HD4890 as my primary card and dedicate the GTX470 to folding 24/7 until the next wave of big games hit that require a beefier card.

Although i really prefer the 470(Reasonable) over the 480(Hot), in this case the 480 much more realistic for the $15.

Oooopsi, didn't noticed your second post in this thread, so i think you made the right choice.Keep it up.
