So is V7800 essentially a single slot 5870 w/2GB of GDDR5?

It's a single-slot HD 5850. Cypress-Pro configuration (1440 SP).

If that 4800 isn't too far behind the 5800 (after looking at the 5800's review), it seems like a great deal. I might just rebuild a workstation box in the future for all my maya needs. Heck, even the 3800 did very well for a low end card.

Here's the new guy based on 5870... double-slot cooling too. You might update the original post with it.

Ooops, I can't remember receiving some RSS feed about it, thought it was launched at the same time with these other, but was added after you checked AMD's site. Sorry.

I'm still baffled at the lack of single slot HD 5770s on the market, and here shows up a FireGl (near 5850) that is single slot?

im pretty sure clocks speeds are no where near 5850 lvls which would mean a single slot could handle it at least thats my guess all i care about is if a 5850 can be soft modded to a firegl card much like the 3850 of old..... id be tickled pink with 2 5850s turned into firegl cards hahah

That, or these are probably cherry-picked chips that are put into PCBs with high-fidelity components (though high-fidelity doesn't mean highly clockable).
