CPU Cooler for PII X6 with OC

Im going to buy a PII X6 1090 T and my intention is to OC it to 4 ghz if possible. I have been reading some reviews and stuff but i dont have a decision. I dont want the best cooler, i want a good cooler without spending more than 50-60€. Give me your opinions. Thanks in advance.

xigmatek dark knight / s1283 or sunbeam core contact freezer are very good and pretty cheap.

or maybe for afew extra the Corsair H50.

with AMD the core contact worked best for me because the the way the fan is angled.

I personally like my Zalman CNPS9500A....

But I haven't really shopped around much for CPU coolers. Although I did like the look of some of the arctic cooling set ups.

IDK about on an X6, but my Mugen 2 with Gentle Typhoons in push/pull keep my 940 @ 3.8 w/ 1.49 Volts nice and cool. And its cheap. It is a pain in the tail to mount, but it can be mounted in any orientation.

Considering i have an extra 120 mm i will buy one of these you proposed that are cheaper and add a second 120 mm. I hope that works and make the cooler better.

That CPU cooler is really only good for duals it could barely keep my e6750 @ 3.6 I pretty much doubt it could hold any serious overclock on a quad or even these hexacore cpu's.

For you a Xigmatek or the Core Contact cooler are good choices. Great price to performance ratio.

You don't need all those super high end coolers, the Phenom II x6 are really cool processors.

The Mugen 2 is also good i think, the Xigmatek i think its noisy when @2100 rpm, and i have to know if the Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme (only 27 €) its decent

Make sure if you buy a xiggy for an AMD rig, that the tabs on the plastic socket piece have the tabs in the right orientation. Most Xiggy's I see in AMD rigs have to be oriented to blow up at the top of the case.

ive had all of those coolers which is why i said about the core contact freezer. the x6 doesnt seem to pump out has much heat as the x4. the core contact also comes with a fan controller which can be fitted at the back of your case. the xiggys are superb coolers if only they faced the right way on AMD systems. the fans are not really noisy just abit fiddly to install into the heatsink fins (little rubber holders), i also saw some tests with the 1090t which overclocked easy to 4ghz on a cheap air setup.

the True is pretty much the best air cooler there is except maybe for the Noctua but you have to pay a premium for them

This is the reason I recommended the Mugen 2, it can be mounted in any orientation. It is inexpensive and an awesome cooler.

Check this "real world" review over at XS, It is the Mugen 2 vs the TRUE 120 on an i7 920. Stands side by side. If it can cool an i7 920, I don't think the X6 will be a problem. The TRUE wins, but not by much. And then check the price. The Mugen 2 is win on AMD in my books.

I had one, and they do work really well. I guess if you didnt clean it often or didnt swap procs as I do, then it wouldnt be so bad to fight it once.

Are you trying to say my rig is dirty? I do clean it regularly, but I do it with the cooler still on the board. Pop off the fans and spray with a little compressed air. Clean as a whistle.

This is a good point. If you swap processors often, this is NOT the cooler for you.

S1283 gets my vote! Keeps my i7 in the 60s at 100% load at 3.8-4.0Ghz w/ dual 120s. It wont struggle with an X6

This is a good point. If you swap processors often, this is NOT the cooler for you.

Nah I got a really old house and furnace, so dust in the winter gets thick Should have seen the fur coat I pulled off my rad one winter

they run so cool you really don't need much to cool them, even this will do it no problem

I realy like my true black 120 I have my q9650 at 4.1 and temps are at 70 at 100% load and 39 at idle, I lapped the base as they were kind of knowen for not the best bases! as soon as my w/c is complete I will be listing here for sale whats also nice is it takes a dual fan so you get a push/pull effect, Iam only running it with one fan for these temps, so Iam sure if i popped the other one on it will drop alot more
