My wife asked if she could by an ipod nano for running. I told her it was an expensive investment because she now would need a laptop ton install itunes on because that garbage isnt getting installed on my system.

Don't knock a product before you try it.

I recently got an iPod Touch and it's very fun to play around with (e.g. Real Racing, NFS: Shift, Sword & Poker, etc.) and the battery life is pretty good if you're just going to use it for music (30+ hours). That and it's one of the few music players that actually has true gapless playback.

The MacBooks, IMO, are just overpriced laptops that have a nice shimmer and run an EFI instead of a BIOS. But the IPS panels that they use are still top-notch.

Then I hardly believe it's the computers fault it's slow. It has more than enough oomph to do those things flawlessly.

well if its not the hardware, its the software... which also tends to suck.

look at the steam to mac thing... every game they ported is many years old, yet still runs like crap and looks far worse than PC.

People can rant all the want about how much they love apple. i'm fine with that, fanboys exist for every product. What i dont like is when they slap it in your face that they can afford to waste money on overpriced products (ooooh i got a 16GB ipod... and 300MB of MP3's)

bleh. i'm going to bed before i try and fry all ipods with my psychic crab powers.

Meh your just being crabby Mussels.

And also i think youll find alot of products are overpriced not just apple like most puter parts for instance or smartphones. Its just trendy to to assume Apple are the only overpriced stuff.

In his case it feels like it's a local problem. Slow surfing with lots of tabs is just silly on a Mac Pro.

The rest of it I agree wholeheartedly with. Apple is not the crook, it's the consumers.

EDIT:

This. So much this. A standalone version of OSX that can be installed on normal hardware (BIOS based producs) with no workarounds would do wonders for their image imo. Sadly I can't see that happen.

actually, they measure by market cap size, which is stock price vs. stocks out there, so yes, it is real money if you want to buy the company you would need 51% of the stocks and right now thats a fun 120 billion

"To each their own." Apple products are well suited to much of the population; the software is as close to dummy-proof as you can get, and the hardware is well designed and built (I didn't realize how well until I took apart a few Mac Pros). Someone above said Apple is for people who don't know anything about computers, and that's exactly the point. Most people don't know much about computers.

Computers are just tools, and what matters is how effective they are in the hands of the craftsman. Macs are like very nice hammers; all they do is hit nails, but they hit 'em right on the head almost every time, in even the most inexperienced craftsman's hands. PCs are like a whole toolkit; they can do many tasks, but most people won't know how to use the majority of the tools in the kit.

Everyone once in a while I drop in the Apple Store at the Mall of America. It always seems to be full of people—both customers and employees—who know next to nothing about computers. But they are people who care more about getting the job done than about the tools used, and that makes Apple products well suited to them. There are many things they can't do with their simple hammers, but since all they want to do is hit nails, more power to them.

Give credit where credit is due.

I pay more for my Verizon service with the Droid than I do for my iPhone on at&t and the plans are virtually identical. The iPhone still wrecks the touch screen market as everything else is sluggish and clunky IMO. Regardless of Android taking over the market (simply more phones with the Google OS).

The iPhone is the only Apple product I will most likely buy for myself...ever. I was going to invest in a Pro for music production 2 years ago. But it came down to software...specifically Logic. I would still need a PC anyway because I run multiple DAWs (Ableton Live, Cakewalk, Cubase) and would need to switch and transfer data/samples between platforms. Not to mention all the software licenses I already have for the PC. It just wasn't worth it. I built virtually the same machine for around 67% the cost of the Mac Pro I would have needed. Plus I can actually play games on this rig haha.

I'm not a MS fanboy, I just have too much money invested in products that require a Windows OS.

I agree completely, I would contemplate an iPhone, and I also actually dislike M$ (I wont buy a 360), but it comes down to hardware for me. And since Apple feels going for out of the box looks rather than hardware comparability and the ability to use that hardware to its fullest. Not to mention, I like modding, and I don't buy over the counter computers, so I end up making something that is much more cool than Apple products.

Maybe for Halloween I could do it but I already play such a good mid-twenties disgruntled douchebag it just feels like such a waste of a well conceived costume.

Interesting, because IIRC, OS X has a newer source engine than the windows counterpart currently. Portal plays Fantastic on my Macbook Pro, as does HL2.

I have seen good Mac labs, and good PC labs. I have seen bad mac labs, and bad PC labs. I have seen good cars wrecked, I have seen bad cars wrecked.

All platforms, os x, linux, windows, are equally capable, and have strengths and weaknesses of their own. It all comes down to the driver(USER), their preference, skill, and usability style. Someone skilled in XX operating system/hardware platform can make a network, game, or program run effectively. Especially quoting a platform that has recently been ported, and is still immature, yet making very very quick and progressive strides to being equal and/or superior in ways.

I've only managed to see one bring the average IQ of post contribution from hate drop to an average of three though. Please keep arguments justified, and information based as a whole. Blind bashing really gets old.

Regardless of products, Apple is doing an excellent job market-value wise. They had a stock price of $59 a pop a few years ago. look at the success they've had. Now they're up to $251. They're doing something right.

Google currently lists MSFT@ 227bil, AAPL at 229 bil. They are both very close.
