Apple patches Intel-based Macs' firmware

Intel based Macintosh computers, like the Mac Pro, Mac Mini, iMac, MacBook and MacBook Pro, have been patched in the most recent firmware revision (10.4.8). The patch focuses on three main areas. This includes Boot Camp problems, various start-up issues, and wake-from-sleep crashes. You can download the patch here.

They use Intels Extensible Firmware Interface. That's why there are mac specific video cards and what not.

Actually, the older powerpc based macs utilized Openfirmware, which made them completely incompatible, with EFI introduced with the X86 based macs... Its very important to note the difference EFI is the successor to the BIOS.

EFI is a good thing, BIOS is old technology and will be phased out.

That's nice. I have absolutely no use whatsoever for a mac... esp garage band.

Oh good god, EFI IS NOT MAC SPECIFIC. It's just what they happen to use.

I'd take a Mac before I use some gay open source OS with no software available like the rest of you pot-smoking hippies.

First warning- Wazzledoozle

What does that have ANYTHING to do with this discussion. When was open source EVER mentioned?

I was clarifying not all macs use EFI.. as the poster did not specify it was ONLY intel macs...

Trying to fix an efi problem with a powerbook... well, it would be pretty funny...

Lol, some people just have a problem when someone disagrees with them. Open source is good as a secondary OS and I wouldn't use a Mac or Open Source as my primary OS.

You maybe not... But then again, windows may be "right" for you...

As for the general public... well, my friend with a macbook has less support type phone calls than her roomate with an inspiron.....

so I think it has done its job.

And I wouldn't use Windows as my primary OS. It's only for gaming, so to each his own.

FreeBSD or PC-BSD and soon to be OSX once Apple releases Leopard. Windows sits by itself as a gaming machine only. Now that Firefox dominates, it's not even needed for web browsing.
