Crossfire suggestions.
Okay, so I have my rig and love it but want MORE POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.... So I wanna crossfire,
At present I have a Sapphire Toxic 5850 2GB and I love it, fast and reliable, but I want MORE!!!!... so I was thinking of a card to crossfire with it, maybe another Toxic 2GB, I can find one for £305.00 or I can get a 1GB Sapphire 5870 for a bit more £330.00 Money is an issue and I wont get it right away but some suggestions on what to crossfire it with would be lovely. I was thinking a dedicated PhysX card but then that means new monitors etc.. Cheers! |

yeah problem is I'll get what, £250-60 for my Toxic, then it'll cost £660 (minus £260 for the 5850) is about £400.00 for 2x 5870's
instead of £305.00 for a 2GB 5850, unfortunately I do not know if I can cost that jump. heck If I could afford it, I'd go for dual 5970 4GB's lol.. |

Just get another Toxic, the 2GB helps when it comes to CF.

The 2gb does nothing to help crossfire, though there is no point him getting aq 1gb when he already has a 2gb otherwise he is limited to 1gb ram
defo best option is grab the same again if you want the upgrade, 2x5850s are plenty fast enough

As graphics demand rise over the course of the next 2 years, 1GB of video ram is not going to be enough for high resolutions above 1920X1080.

Well, the primary reason for my suggestion is that he already has a 2Gb graphics card, CF with a 1Gb graphics card will be a waste of 1Gb of graphics memory and you seem to have the same idea too. The (potentially) futureproofing is just an added bonus.

Depends on what type of games you play bro, off the bat I would just grab another HD5850 toxic 2GB card if you just want more POWERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
![]() I would overclock like hell too not sure if those HD5850 PCB support voltage control though but you should be able to get a good overclock outta them without touching the voltages

it doesnt have to be a toxic card - just grab a cheaper non reference 5850 - you probably bought the card for the cooler. I paid £240 for my non ref (no voltage control/blue PCB) sapphire 5850 with the stock cooler & temps are still very very good. better cooling is not something you really need to invest in.
if you do get another non ref card chances are the bios's are the same asside from the difference in clock speed so you could probably flash the non toxic card with a toxic bios & it would still work perfectly fine. if all fails - they still overclock really well. I got 920/1200 (without voltage tweaking dont forget) Ive heard of people hitting 950/1200+ on non reference cards. so its all down to luck. as it stands the 5850 represents great value for money so long as you have the REFERENCE version - you can tweak the voltages & get 5870 performance for much lesser cost. another 5850 would be a good idea but if you paying over £300 then its not really worth it anymore & you would probably be better off selling your current 5850 & putting the cash from the sale & the £300 from not buying another 5850 - throw in a little more cash n get a 5970 as they retail for around £600 (LOL £600 graphics card....)
