Hard drive security?
Hey all!
I was wondering if there is a way in windows to password protect an individual hard drive, specifically an external usb hard drive? I have a WD notebook external 500gb and currently Winxp service pack 3. Not sure if this is the right thread space or not. Thanks! |

I know for a fact that if you get one of those new wd passports they have a program to allow you to password protect the hd. I don't know if the one you have has that app installed in your external hd.

Probably not as it is about 2 years old. Is there any software out there that can do it? payware or free ware?

Well you might be able to buy the app from WD if they sell it but if it is files and folders you truly want to password protect try truecrypt. You can download for free at the site TrueCrypt.

I highly recommend TrueCrypt. It's more involved than a simple drive password, but is free, solid, effective, and doesn't take long to figure out.
