Performance laptop for school

I am in need of a laptop for next year I don't do much gaming but want exceptional performance.

Budget is 900 TOPS!

Looking at hp laptops cus ive herd good things about them.
Should I look at Dell or Toshiba instead?

All suggestions are appreciated

You gonna be using in School? If not but at your dorm/place of stay Then a Desktop replacement would work but if your going to be toting it all over the place your gonna want thin, light, cool and silent. Meaning not the fastest. If wanting 64bit, get 4 Gigs, if just 32bit 3 Gigs.

OMG, what are you smoking? (jk)
But seriously, his budget is 900 and I NEVER saw a good alienware for that low price, maybe 2nd hand, but not new.

laxbumb, try the Toshibas. They have some good (very good) models for that price. Some are too shiny to take to school, but there are some models that are more sober and carrying very good power. Go for the Satellites/Satellite Pro.
Your choice.

Ok man, just show the details you want and we will give it a shot, like 8 gb ram, or 4? Core i7 or core i5? GFX 6100 or mobile HD5870?

I doubt, with those specs, it'll be below 1000$...or 1200$ even...

Is it for gaming or just to study, Internet, work?

Take a look at these:
800$
800$
800$
780$

The differences rely on HDD, CPU and screen size...
Bad thing is that all have IGPs...but for this price and screen size.

now your just getting picky

5400 would be relatively slow, but you could always upgrade it later to an SSD or just a 7200 RPM

or you can get this ACER one (linked before)
Acer Aspire AS5745G-3690 NoteBook Intel Core i5 45... and get a 7200 rpm HD Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM... and still come under 900 (if you dont have to pay taxes)

Yes, but for flash and dreamwaver an IGP will suffice, since it doesn't have to handle heavy 3D graphics.
Alek get this, Alienwares are for those who want an excuse to have a "cool" looking laptop yet understand as much about PCs as whole humanity understand black-holes. Later they end up realizing what a stupid choice they made, since for the same price of an alienware, they could have bought a decent portable workstation like a Clevo, without looks but with a lot more power...and yet at lanpartys those people get constantly annoyed by desktop/lanbox users that can get better performance, less heat issues and be as portable as that heavy ass 18'' alienware.
Those laptops are just plain useless. If you portability and work where ever you want, get a laptop (15.6'' max), if you want to play games and such, get a desktop. If you want to do heavy graphics designing everywhere, get a Clevo.

No. My Toshiba uses a 5400rpm HDD and it's still fast. All laptops, in that price range, have 5400rpm HDDs. Don't worry about it, but yes, you can also get a 7200rpm HDD later.
Two years ago laptops still had 4200rpm HDD and that WAS slow!

BTW, that A665 is a very nice laptop and a sweet deal too!

EDIT: Just realized the Alienware you linked is an 11''. That has to be bound with temperature issues if it can pack an i7 in a 11'' shell. Also, I've worked for 8hrs with a 10'' EeePC for several weeks (work laptop) and it's the worse thing imaginable! There's no space for the windows and after a few hours your eyes start to bleed. Well, not literally, but the feeling is there and you get twice as tired. Not good especially for flash and dreamwaver.
