Vsync on vs Vsync off

Just wondering how many of you play your games with Vsync on? I know it stops screen tearing and limits the load and temps on your gpu, but exactly how many of you play with vsync on? Please place your vote

I honestly use it when games have a habit of tearing, but may games are tested well enough to prevent this without VSync. Right now I think I use it in like 2 of 15 games I own.

If there's tearing and my FPS can afford VSync, I'll turn it on. If I don't notice any tearing or my FPS can't afford it, off it stays. But yeah, if the devs. would test their games to a better extent they could probably do away with tearing altogether.

I don't like mouse lag. V-Sync stays off. With racing games / controller stuff I leave it on.

I always have it enabled, unless running benchmarks. No reason as to why, just became a habit lol.

i used to be anti Vsync, until three things were taught to me.

1. Crossfire hates Vsync being off.

2. The mouse/input lag with Vsync, i havent encountered in ages. I think that era is long gone.

3. You can actually save heat/power with Vsync, if you're CPU limited. (your GPU doesnt run at 100%, so it uses less power and makes less heat. i've seen upto 150W savings on various systems, depending on settings used)

Always with vsync on while gaming (and off during benchies).

I never noticed mouse lag with vsync on, didn't even know it could cause mouse lag..

As long as my PC can maintain minimum of 60FPS in games, I always turn on Vsync.
This way i get very fluid on-screen image (no tearing,no lag) with fixed 60FPS.

Vsync is great, if GPU can keep up with monitors refresh rate i.e. 60Hz-> minimum 60Fps,75hz-> minimum 75Fps... you get the idea.

So does eyefinity

Single screen games = On (unless the performance hit is really noticeable then I turn it off)

Eyefinity = Off (since it doesn't bloody work properly anyway )

Overall, I prefer it on when I can since I hate bad screen tearing / light source flickering etc

Did you ever play Dead Space?

Vsync on = Slow control response
Vysnc off = Smooth control response but the dynamic lighting caused horrendous flickering...

that was a bug in dead space, and not a normal thing at all. since dead space, i'm yet to find another game with Vsync issues (other than it not turning on in the first place, which D3Doverrider fixes in 99% of games)

In terms of the FPS hit, I've found that games that aren't capable of 60FPS actually seem smoother with vsync on since it keeps a constant FPS instead of jumping around.

I'm with Mussels also, I haven't had a game have mouse lag with vsync enabled in years, except Dead Space of course but that is a bug.

There isn't anything that game developers can do to prevent tearing, don't kid yourselves. VSync is the only option to prevent tearing. You can adjust the gameplay settings to get as close to your refresh rate as possible, that will minimize tearing, but won't eliminate it completely.
