500gb SATA II laptop HDD or a silent desktop drive
I want to buy a 500gb sataII lappy hdd for my desktop rig. The noise and heat of heat standard desktop drives isn't working for me. I would like a 7200rpm but will take a 5400rpm also.
I would also settle for a 3.5" drive if it is silent (or as close as possible).PM me with what you got and price shipped to 43068 ![]() my heat is p_o_s_pc also maybe willing to trade for something also take a look in my FS thread.

If you are going to get a 2.5" drive as your primary OS drive in a deaktop, you should get the Momentus XT.

Have you tried changing the AAM (Automatic Acoustic Management) value of the hard-drive?
I did that to my WD drive and it's incredibly silent now, no more noise when accessing the disk. And it only increases the access times a little bit ![]() I use HDDScan for that, in case you want to try it with your current drives. |

maybe try a 5400 rpm western digital green they are energy efficient, quiet and pretty fast as they have 64 MB of cache
