THX Certified Logitech Speaker System Z623 Ready to Rock the House

For big, bold sound from your music, movies and games, Logitech unveiled the THX Certified Logitech Speaker System Z623. With this 2.1 system, you'll hear and feel immersive audio from 200 Watts (RMS) of power whether you're connecting the speakers to a PC or a TV.

"Whether you're listening to rock music, watching a Steven Spielberg flick, or playing your favorite video game, the experience is always richer when you get engrossed in the audio," said Mark Schneider, vice president and general manager of Logitech's audio business unit. "That's why we built the Logitech Speaker System Z623 – so you can lose yourself in whatever you’re into. For DVD aficionados, music enthusiasts and hardcore gamers, the Z623 system delivers powerful audio for your room. And with THX certification, you know you’re getting the best."

So you can set up the system the way you want, Logitech includes all the inputs and cables you need to get great sound from up to three audio devices. With the RCA and 3.5 mm inputs, in addition to the built-in headphone jack, you can be set up in minutes to enjoy great sound from your computer, game console, digital music players, TV or DVD player. And to put you in command, the integrated controls on the right speaker satellite let you dial the volume and bass up or down to customize your listening experience.

Logitech and THX – Delivering Pure Performance
To get you totally immersed in your audio, the Logitech Z623 speakers are THX Certified and professionally engineered to recreate the tonal balance of whatever you're listening to. To qualify for THX certification, the two-satellite-and-subwoofer Z623 speaker system has to meet strict performance standards. Logitech engineers have worked closely with THX, conducting more than 400 acoustic and electrical bench tests covering frequency response, power output, distortion, noise and overall performance. For the Logitech Z623 speakers, the result is front speakers that deliver dialogue and ambient sounds so clear it's like you're on the set of your favorite film. And you'll hear powerful, deep bass from your subwoofer as it recreates the roar of a jet engine or the sound of a collapsing bridge.

Pricing and Availability
The Logitech Speaker System Z623 is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe in September for a suggested retail price of $149.99 (U.S.).

so...since when did the high-end take over the 3digit naming scheme? the jump from z523's to 623's is so nutz lol figured it was just gonna be an update with like 120watts system power. 200 is z-2300 level. Wonder which'll be better

What value does "THX certified" give to this set?

read on THX here. Short version is that being THX certified simply states that the product has kickass sound

Sweet. Seems like a good deal for the latest in 2.1 desktop sound.

yea, but the z-2300's are also 200watts and THX certified. plus they're currently cheaper than that expected MSRP, $130 compared to $149

The satellites have soft cloth caps provided. See those four holes around the speaker? That's where the caps go in.

I can't stand logitech speakers. They market a ridiculous product that offers no real quality.

I have their 5.1 Surround system and it is total crap.

The only attraction to this would be the subwoofer for 16 year olds to boom as loud as they can.

These don't even have a tweeter...for shame.

THX used to mean something. Now you can get it on a set of speakers made of plastic...

Honestly if you have not tried logitech THX cert speakers you cant say all logitechs are crap. now they don't sound as great as bose 2.1 setups but at the price point that they're at its a great value for the money.

the one thing i don't like about these new speakers is that all of the audio controls are on the main speaker. i prefer how my z-2300's are setup with the separate audio dongle.

BOSE is nothing but a PR brand name that is not consistent with quality, exactly like Logitech. THX certification no longer means anything, that is for sure. These are all just stupid catch-phrases and buzz words that are floating around, like HD-Ready/3D and other crap.

When you have a REAL system, you will definitely hear the difference. It's not hard to build even an affordable budget system that can play 24-bit/96Khz FLACs or SACD/Vinyls nowadays.

I have spent over $2,000 these last 2 years to build an impressive home theater experience, blowing over 250 Watts per channel (and as any audiophile knows, not everything is about watts, THD, sensitivity, etc... matters) on a 2.1 setup. And let me tell you, when you're listening to music or a movie with a lot of effects, you can tell the difference between a piece of plastic that costs $150 or a speaker crafted out of Rosewood at $900 a piece.

The equivalent of someone saying Logitech is even "almost decent to listen to".

Logitech fails for crappy mid-range, compensated for by excessive bass.

I had z-5500, went to a $25 pawn-shop stereo with mid-range speakers and a matching 100W sub...sounds far better to my ears.

I completely understand..I used to be the same way. But as I've gotten older, I've noticed that newer music really filkls the entire audio spectrum..to the point I thikn most songs are over-saturated, making this issue kinda hide. But listen to pre-80 music, and classical, and it's very obvious how logitech speakers are lacking. maybe these will cahnge that, but I doubt it, given what's shown in the picture.

Nothing. THX certification is like SLI certification on power supplies. All that matters is if the quality is there. You just pay extra for the label. THX no longer really means anything. The brand has been incredibly diluted.

Yep, your money is better spent elsewhere. Logitech is one of the most overrated speaker makers. For this money, you could buy a nice pair of Studio monitors that would kick the shit out of these in sound. The just won't have the booming, muddy bass to go with it.

Sure I can, until they prove otherwise. Nothing they have released until this point has been worth 1/3 of what they charge. I can tell just by the design alone that these will be lacking. How is that tiny satellite driver supposed to be able to hit bass low enough to crossover with the sub at a proper frequency? Then, where is the tweeter to bring out the highs? All they did was take some cheap ass speakers, throw a cheap and powerful, but dirty as hell amp to them, then slapped on a THX label. Pure junk.

from links post down has been nothing but bashing on all speakers mentioned. have none of you ever heard of personal preference ? im not trying to start arguments here but come on. just because you don't like a certain brand or the way it sounds doesn't mean you have to bash on it for everything they make.

No, I bash on them because they are overpriced. They aren't worth the money for the lack of sound and build quality. It really has nothing to do with preference. You can get better sound for the money.

Find me 280watt RMS 5.1 setup that is THX certified (yes, it does mean something) for under 150 dollars shipped.

Also, what the hell does the enclosure material have to do with this? Sure, enclosures mean everything when you're talking about bass, but there is nothing wrong with "plastic" enclosures. As long as it is designed and tuned to the speakers characteristics, the enclosure material does not matter.

Rosewood is not going to sound better than MDF if both boxes are identical.

EDIT: Oh and THX is a sound studio. THX is a standard, and if a product doesn't perform they will not brand their name on it. Logitech isn't the best brand for sound but they aren't the worst, by far. Even a well known private company that does nothing but try to ensure good replication of audio for consumers is willing to put their name on it.

Is it just me getting tired of all this subwoofer/satellite crap.

Music just sounds better to me out of a full range speaker that is designed to produce sub bass too.
