Mouse stops working randomely
I have an optical ps/2 mouse that ive used without issue for years, i don;t even think ive ever dropped it before, but now every once in a while it will stop responding to movement and then start moving again after a feeas seconds, but the strange thing is everything else works, my keyboard, mouse clicjing even the read led during the time that it is not responding to movement. I use a mouse pad.

Physically inspect the cable and connector and see if something got broken/bent.

Check your Power Options. If it's set to balance change it to high performance to see if the issue stops. In particular the "USB selective suspend setting" should be disabled.

I mean it "has the brand of the computer on it.", so where is he gonna find another one like that? After spending 5 years with a mouse it probably feels like a natural extension of his hand, or perhaps he has a very unique hand size/shape so only this mouse feels comfortable. Could be a gift from his first girlfriend...jesus, people are so cold these days. |

i'd say its dying, or somethings blocking the sensor at repeated intervals*
my advice is to get a new mouse - i'm sure many will reccomend mice like the one i have (logitech G500) but with your needs even a basic one will do - just dont get a cheap wireless mouse. *bloody unlikely eh?

![]() Yeah, sounds like she\he is dying. Five, or so, years old. Try using some alcohol (not the drinking type, but rubbing) and lint free swabs (or, take it apart) to clean the pick-up sensor. Especially, if there are any smokers or your cook a lot of greasy foods in the area (also, included, if you live in smog\pollution zones). Failing this; get a new one.

Todays wireless mice are not laggy. At, least the good ones, I don't buy 3 dollar mice off ebay.
Ask some of the guys\gals, what is the best mouse( wireless and/or wired ) and see if anyone has one for sale at a good price or maybe they will get rid off for shipping. Or even, check Newegg for some, with free shipping and on-sale. I like on-sale and free shipping. You will find the right replacement. ![]() Oh, did you try cleaning the lenses? todays high end wireless mice arent laggy, but the cheap ones still are.
then again, since he used a PS2 mouse for 5 years i doubt he's going to want to spend money on an expensive high end mouse, wireless or not.
