These could be "defective" burners. Misalignment of write head or other problems. Try flashing the ROMs for sure! But test the write by reading on another CD-drive before doing any critical backups!
I remember in the good old days I had one of the "first" cd-burners... 650MB... SCSI. Problem was that she liked her own burns, but other CD drives didnt like her CDs at all. So be careful. |

Its like when they are selling lower end video cards like hotcakes and they take a top of the line card and downgrade it for the cards that are selling like hot cakes.
They have done this with CPUs in the past as well. |

my 4x scsi burner still works fine, u just gotta run a calabration on it every few months if ur not burning much or burning a whole lot.
