Minecraft

So what is Minecraft?
It's a sandbox game centered around creative, emergent gameplay with multiple single player and multiplayer modes.
The goal is to mine, create, and if playing survival mode, to stay alive through the night.
It currently costs $13 USD or 10 euros and is alpha stage of development, though purchase buys you the final product as well, once released.
It's multiplayer survival mode is currently unfinished, but allows for creative play with unkillable monsters.
Worth noting is just how large the maps can get, with its incremental 3d voxel-square grid, that generates random maps full of cliffs, hills, mountains, caves, fields, oceans, lakes, streams, lava streams, caverns, etc. As you explore, even online, the map generates chunk grids into infinity until floating point memory restricts the mapsize. Theoretically its possible to travel 32 million blocks from the center, which at 64 million block meters (assuming each block is a meter), is approximately 8 times the surface area of Earth itself. HUGE.

I just play the Browser version. Its an interesting game to play when your bored at work or school (or the likes).

Yup. Thats the benefit of having graphic quality like that. I can't wait for computers to become powerful enough to make maps of that size with Physics and Graphics like that of Crysis.

Minecraft has become very popular in Norway since a gamer site had an article about it. I've never got myself around to test it though.

I just saw this on Goodgame like 2days ago, looks very interesting. Has any one played Dwarf Fortress? Because this game is sorta like it but FPS view.

For those who want to see a review on it go here > http://www.abc.net.au/tv/goodgame/ep...tember2010.htm

Minecraft is pure building. Alone, I would gather the game to be boring, but I played for 6 hours straight. IMO there needs to be objectives, like build to the top or something to make the game more fun, but players just building is extremely entertaining.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned it here yet. I haven't cause I am purposely trying hard to avoid it due to it's reportedly incredibly addictive nature. I don't have enough time to play the games I already own!

And check THIS crazy shit out!

-If you love endlessly building insane crap in Garry's Mod you will like Minecraft.
-If you were more interested in building your house than anything else in The Sims, you will like Minecraft.
-If you are content to drive around in GTA and just enjoy exploring then you will like Minecraft.
-If you've ever built something for no reason other than "I can", you will like Minecraft.
-If you believe that having a goal and a direction is as fleeting as dust in the wind, you will like Minecraft.
-If you like Minecraft, you will like Minecraft. Minecraft.
