decent . but it's a bit aged and won't last long when comes new hardware killer title. if you plan to stay with console ported game or some source game from steam then it will last a while.

Certainly not when you can get a quad for around the same price and be happy with 2 more cores regardless of how much they get used.

It's nice to have the extra power for later use and who knows; maybe he will decide Photo Shop is the way forward and we all know that app loves cores.
I hardly consider "happy" to be worse performance. Plus the Q8400 has tiny amounts of cache for a quad-core, and overall is actually a very disappointing performer unless you are really doing work that takes advantage of the 4 cores. Since this is a gaming machine, I'd avoid it.

I dont like the Q8400 either, this is why I said get the 965BE for around the same price and its clocked @ 3.4GHz so I'd call that a win-win in terms of power vs performance (aka raw clock speed).
