Buffalo Announces World's First Blu-ray XL Burners

Buffalo Technology Japan announced the world's first PC drives that can burn Blu-ray XL (BDXL) discs. BDXL is a next-generation Blu-ray based disc format that can hold up to 128 GB of data in standard-sized discs. Buffalo's BDXL burner lineup consists of a standard 5.25" sized internal drive with SATA interface, carrying the model number BRXL-6FBS-BK; and an external drive with USB 2.0 interface, the BRXL-6U2. Both these drives burn BDXL discs at 4X, BR-RE XL at 2X, and conventional single and double layer BD-R discs at 6X. The company is yet to announce market availability.

They should just start selling flash drives with movies on them instead of blu-ray discs. That would eliminate any vibrating parts. Hell, all the video companies could design their own "flash movie players", put some good video processing junk in them and still come out ahead because very little research would be needed to standardize such a "standard"

How are you going to get "Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D" on a small memory device?

It will fit on a DVD/BR box.

Yes ... that's a real movie title. It's a parody of George Romero's classic.

No they're not.

Optical discs are much cheaper to produce, they're pretty much work by reading laser etched ridges like 1s and 0s so mass producing them is very cheap as they're is not need for parts if you will.

Yeah, selling FLASH drives with movies on them is akin to selling them on blu-ray drives with the disc inside.

They're going to go with what they can make the most profit from per item. The discs are cheap to make. The stuff looks good, still a somewhat new format if you think about it. Big sticker!

or, 50 dollar flash drive to do the same job.
