Hi
I bought a Dell 15r laptop... i have some doubts ..please help

1.how to transfer data from desktop HDD to my laptop ?

2.It has DOS os only ...have to install windows ...is it possible to partition the hard disk space in laptop with windows xp cd? just like what we do in desktops ? or can I use partition magic ?

3.is it possible to use two os ?like win xp 32 bit in one drive and win 7 32 in another ?

1-are you asking transfer file before installing OS or after ,after os installation you have a lot of options ,usb cable/ethernet connection/ over lan if you have router etc.
2-Yes you can partition hdd like you can do at desktop .Use win7 dvd if you have ,older xp cds had problem with hdds with over 127gb until sp2 ,if youll use xp cd use sp2 or sp3 integreted xp cd just to be safe
3-Yes of course it is possible , install xp first and win7 later .Microsoft OSs has this order older OS first ---> new OS later

1-The easy way to transfer Data is USB Key it is so cheap to buy now you can have a 16Gb for about $20-25 & 32Gb for about $35

2-The laptop had Dos?
Then it would be a pretty old laptop & you may not have enough ram or HDD space to install Windows XP , win98se maybe?

3- Yes dual boot works pretty good as long as you make a partition for each OS

If, subhendu has gotten a recent model Dell 15r, I don't think he will have trouble running any recent OS on it.

Dell 15r specs:
Spoiler

A laptop without a OS can be had from some companies(new, used, refurbed, etc.) or purchased second hand, or by other means(gift, given - because thought dead, etc.).
Just 'cause it has DOS on it, doesn't necessarily mean old.

If he wants to use XP then he may need to use nLite to slipstream AHCI drivers to his XP install. His laptop is new enough that the XP disc might not recognize his HD.

Ya you have to enable AHCI support in bios because the XP boot cd can't see your HDD because it lacks the drivers. But knowing dell and what cheapskates they are, you probably won't be able to find any XP drivers for your hardware anyway...

Sorry, again asking ... how much it costed you ? I got some discount,
