Galaxy Designs Single-Slot GeForce GTX 460 Graphics Card

Galaxy is working on a new GeForce GTX 460 graphics card that uses a single-slot cooling solution. The company earlier surprised many, when it unveiled a single-slot GeForce GTX 470. Galaxy's new single-slot GTX 460 bears a long PCB, and a cooling solution that looks to make lavish use of copper. It also doesn't compromise on the clock speeds in any way, with the GPU running at 675 MHz, and memory at 900/3600 MHz effective. There is 1 GB of GDDR5 memory. The 40 nm GF104 core is DirectX 11 compliant, and has 336 CUDA cores enabled on this card. The card draws power from two 6-pin power inputs. It is SLI capable. Galaxy didn't give out details about pricing and availability, importantly if it will be available to the western markets in the first place.

Cute litte card, but the fact that it says "Caution: Hot surface" on the cover itself makes me take pause. Not being all that familiar with newer Nvidia cards, this is normal?

AFAIK It's not too uncommon to be warned about that, they even did it with my hawk.

The dual slot 460's don't get very hot at all. I could imagine these definitely getting hotter though.

Yeah, quite normal. The 8800 GT has a scorching hot surface even as it's displaying your bootscreen.

fan shroud looks metal, might be using it as an auxilury due to lack of fin space for the actual cooler, this is a common practive in laptops, which is why some of them can burn the crap out of your lap.

would still be curious about temps.

7 of these on the Asus WS Spercomputer board would be about as much folding as you could get done in one PC I think? untill a single slot card with more sp's comes out, or if they make dual GF104 cards and you can fit 4 of those

This is great for those who want to SLI in compact cases.

I had a job once where the customer insisted on SLI GTX 460 in a Rack mountable case, needless to say there was no room between the first and second card, and also no room between the second card and the chasis

this would make such a setup possible without having to ghetto a bunch of fans all over the shot

(i.e, anti-sandwitch-ftw)

they did a single slot GTX260 if I rememeber correctly too, the cooler may be small but they usually make them all copper and the fan is agressive. it will be noisy under load but I'd wager the temps wont be too far out of line at all, and keeping 6+6 pin means OC headroom to spare
