4770 to a 4870

I turn up it to 40% or 50% , and the room gets warm it's really .... actually practically in the winter hehe.

Instead of using the electric heater (still got the water radiators but they don't run all day)

Just got my card Today, Sadly i could'nt give it ago as it needed 2 x 6 pin Pci-E and i only have one on my power supply so i had to buy a Molex to Pci-e, Should get that tommo with any luck.

Could'nt believe the size of the card though as i opened up the Box i said to my friend wonder why they stuck the card in a box that size.....Over doing the packaging......Lol Then i saw the card i was like WTF is this. It's like a brick wonder there produce so much heat. Also looks like im gonna have to move my hard drive.

okay , the next thing you do keep saving up for HD6870 when it's 50$ , or if you can afford it sonnec , it's fine card but the powerdrain , it needs a reactor!

Ok, Right Have Not Just Stuck in the 4870 in..... Everything Appears to Be working Fine Atm.

I have Ran 3Dmark 06 Twice now and had no problems at all, My Temps Seem Pretty High to my liking though But from what i Read are pretty normal for the 4800 Series. Iv uploaded a Pic anyway just to See if Anyone has any concerns ........ Lol



IS there anyway to make this Card Cooler Like any good coolers that may help Etc would perhaps like to get this down to 40 - 50 in idle atleast ?

That is perfectly normal temps for a 4870 & x3 440.

with your psu costing like half of what an antec earthwatts 500w costs (based off shopmania.co.uk).. I would be a bit worried about the build quality

HD4770 is a great cool card. First 40nm technology. HD4870 is a hot card in comparison to the HD4770. I wouldn't expect huge drops in temps on the HD4870 unless you have a very nice water loop for it.

I would rather have a HD4770 over a HD4870.

Think i may just Sell this 4870, It's a Good Card But Thew thing is Huge and Has Pretty much Taken oVer my Case And TBH i Do Prefer my 4770 To this Alot Cooler and Better.

Should get the Same amount as i paid for it Hopefully then i think i'll Save that Cash and Buy a 5770 had a look on Ebay Can Get a brand New 5770 for about £100-120

5770 is a better upgrade path but you should consider gtx 460 or hd 6850.

Well, I am definatly going to Sell the 4870 i think and get a 5770 and a better PSU when iv got the cash that is which should be Very soon with any luck : )

Anyway i will be sticking it up on Ebay Next Week Either Firday or Saturday For Price i Paid.

Honestly, since you are not happy with the 4870, I do not see you being pleased with the 5770 either. After all, that 128 bit memory interface is going to hold you back in the long run.

I personally would suggest going for the 6850 instead which is considerably faster than the 5770. Oh well, I am running a 4890 and a 4870 in crossfire and it is working great so far. (Mind you, I have a Thermaltake 750 Watt powersupply so that may be why.)

even though the 5770 can be clocked to the point where its literally neck and neck with the 4870 at high resolutions the 4870 will pull ahead due to its 256mb memory bus, though there are some members on this site who will refute this and claim that a heavily overclocked 5770 will happily offer performance similar to that of a 4890 or just under - in which case they are either lying or just extremely extremely lucky.

a GTX460 would be a much much better idea over all, It might not be £50 - but a GTX460 can be had as little as £115 if you look in the right places - but your looking at an average price of £120-135. £140 being the highest price. for that price you get something which runs pretty cool n quiet and overall its a big step ahead of 4770/5770/4870

keep in mind that a decent 450watt is recommended but if you're running otherthings id get something like a 620/650 just to be on the safe side - you can never have too much juice

I think I will keep this Card now, I did'nt Really Test it out once i got it as i'v been I'll But i did have ago with it last night on a Few Games (Civ V and lost planet 2) They all Ran Fine on 1080p on high Lowest Fps was 51 on LP2. I still dont like the amount of Heat this Card Gives out But as FreedomEclipse Said it Does keep your Room warm.... ; )

But from what you Guys have Told me about the 5770 i Dont Really think it worth getting now Considering the 4870 is Running Fine with the Games im playing....FOR NOW : )

I think i have Got to Buy a Better Power Supply Before I think about Getting a Decent Card, I also Still want to Get a X4 965 Which I will Soon Be Getting Soon. Then i Think i will get Some Cash together For a Decent Card and See what is about then.

there are a lot of good PSU's out there (but there are more bad ones though :P). Here is my recommended shortlist (trying to balance quality/price):

1.) Corsairs (VX550, TX650)
2.) XFX BLACK 650w (typically Very good for the price)
3.) ThermalTake Toughpower XT Series(?) -- the one I got had a good review over @ jonnyGuru

the OCZ does have a good review, can't seem to find a proper review of the CX600w.. all I can find though is that it seems to be a budget class PSU, with ~500w rating @ 30 (which isn't too good). Source. Leaning towards OCZ at this point
