Mousepads
Hi guys,
First of all I wasn't sure whether to put this in the hardware forum but I guess since it was specific to my use of games I'd post it here. I have picked up a large Razer Goliathus on the shopping list for my new gaming rig but I need to drop the total by a few quid to make room for a new monitor (Old one is bust). Are gaming mousepads worth it compared to, for example, the one I have from ASDA with a faux leather material for GAMING only? The mouse I will be using is a Logitech G500. Have you noticed any difference before?

Well, I generally prefer empty desktops rather than mousepads, but that makes my mouse's feet get dirty very fast, so I use an el-cheapo mousepad for now. Mouse that I am talking about is the Microsoft X5. I think the general consensus is that a mousepad is better than without one, but then again, each to its own. I would avoid the Goliathus though, it wears out pretty fast by my standards.

i need cloth feel, hate plastic or metal. and big
XTrac Pads Ripper XL (newegg link) are the best i have found, actually have 3 of them to cover my whole work surface. they also have smaller ones. I have a g500, and it works great with these. the biggest consideration is comfort. most newer mice will work on all desk surfaces pretty well - it's just a matter of how much space you have and how easily it glides over the material.

I think the really thin Razer Sphex feels much better on the palm of my hand when I rest it.

FWIW, you can get the Sphex for $15 shipped on Ebay, it makes a difference if you shop around. The old thick pads are more uncomfortable for many people. Mousepads are a to each their own type of thing.

I use a Rocketfish aluminum gaming mousepad, and I freaking love it. It's two-sided, one side with a rough surface for design and low sensitivity work, and a smooth side for gaming and high sensitivity.
Cost me $20 but I've had it for a few years, and it's still like it was when I bought it! :3

I have an old mouse pad made from circuit board and my mouse has never worked good on it due to the pad side being foam/rubber style, So i got an old pair of womens tights/stockings and stuck them over it lol, My mouse works better than ever now and it cost me no pennys.

Got sick of replacing plastic ones and what ever others and got a glass type one from Steelseries and it's been great.

I've always preferred traditional cloth mousepads. The smooth gaming pads glide too much with no resistance. Cloth has a little more tactile feel for predictable movement. And you want a large mousepad for serious business FPS gaming with a low in game sensitivity setting for precise aiming.
http://www.amazon.com/Allsop-Mouse-P...IY?ref=prid-20 That's the pad I've been using for about 8 years now. Office depot use to sell them for $10 and I'd just buy a new one about every year. Greatest pad ever! |

I've had a 1030 for um.. three years now I believe? Still going strong, and if one side doesn't feel just right, you can swap it around and 9/10 times it will be what you need. (I use one side for FPS games and the other for RTS/RPG games)
Really should look at getting a replacement within the next six months though.. |

i tried to replace it with some razer pads, they're all thrown out now. their plastic ones might as well be sandpaper.
