FYI, AMD is giving away CPUS!!!

But, "normal folk" like us haven't been made aware of this stuff...becuase AMD's marketing only targets a very specific audience.

Hit up AMD's twitter feed for more info.

Oh, and the fact it's me bringing this to you, rather than AMD's own marketing team, should be a sure sign of how bad Simon Solotko is at doing his job.

Yes, I mentioned names. It's time for the crap people to get fired, and to stop catering to thier friends only.

And yes, JF-AMD, you read this...go and kick Simon in the ass for not doing his job properly. And point him in my direction as the source. Send me a PM, and I'll give you my number so he can call me and I can tell him for real that he sucks.

More details here:

This Black Friday, AMD is on the lookout for deals on AMD-based products in stores and online. If you want to help us source deals and enter our contest to win a notebook PC or an AMD PhenomTM II X6 processor, log in to Twitter and share your deal with the hashtag, #AMDdeals.

LoL, don't take this the wrong way...I really don't need free stuff. I'm just disappointed that this isn't being marketed at those that really need this stuff(both the deal info, and the give-away), rather than those that are gonna burn it up and throw it away(and those people don't need to be marketed to anyway).

But I know lots of you guys could use a free cpu, so hit 'em up!

I don't see what the issue is. You are able to take advantage of this just like anyone else.

Well, for one thing... Me, myself, and I don't use face"slap"book. Surprise... I, imo, find "it" a worthless waste of time.
I did not see any alternate method of entering the contest. Yes, I, even, checked your official rules and regulations.

And, if you are still here, I signed up for e-mail notifications of driver updates and other info (new products, contests, etc.).
I have yet to receive any... been, over a year now, guess you all ain't made any new products or drivers, huh?
Well, at least I have not gotten any clutter in my in, out , spam or any other boxes.

All I can say is, "Thank goodness for TPU, W1z, Mods, and the forum members here; so, I can get true test results, reviews, and updates, also, catch the good deals through all the postings."

TPU the one true source.

Sure, we could take advantage, but getting alot the users that have money to spend to actually sign up for twitter or facebook might be an issue. Need I bring up Facebook and privacy in the same sentence?

Seems more like marketing for Twitter and Facebook, than for AMD, to be honest. PROBLEM #1.

Anyway, it would have taken less than 5 minutes to post up here and let people know...

You know...marketing to the enthusiasts...but that didn't happen. It DID happen on another forum with 1/4 the audience at any given moment. PROBLEM #2.

Oh, and look, I'm not the only with these thoughts, now that others know about it. Surprise, surprise. PROBLEM #3.

Sry, Jeff. I'm just being honest here. Just an AMD customer saying how I'd like to be marketed to.

Facebook and Twitter are the #2 and #10 sites on the internet in terms of traffic. Not using them for marketing is foolhardy at best. There is a strong enthusiast crowd in both places.

I used to be hugely anti-twitter, but it's not all ZOMG I HAS FARTED AND IT'S NEAT. As much as I hate to say it, the site has it's place even in the tech sector.

Twitter is a tool for those that need to make money. Those that have money to spend don't really have any use for it. It's good for performance artists, porn stars, etc..."to keep in touch with the people", without really touching them.

LIke this:

______140char______

You know you want it.

The reality is that it'll make it easy for Simon to post the ads that people send him, so he doesn't have to look for them himself.

A good tool, yes.

For tools that are too lazy to do the work themselves.

Oh look...nevermind...he'll give you a cpu...

Truth hurts, sometimes.

a fart is only worth twittering and facebooking about is if it smells of rancid maggot infested cheese made out of sour goats milk and churned with a rotting leg of a cow affectionately known as Moses which somehow didnt make it to the McD's grade to be made into quarter pounders.

meet those requirements n they might delete everyone elses account just so you can get it to the front page.

Yes, it's lame, as is this marketing.

JF-AMD, seriously now, this is crap marketing. And I'm not saying that because I've had issues with my AMD products. I'm saying this becuase I want AMD to succeed, and things like this do more harm than good. I love AMD like my kids, and currently AMD presents itself as the unruly teenager that's not quite sure what she's doing in life.

The fact you think this is OK might be an indicator that you are too entrenched into the tech world, and while that is somewhat of a good thing, it's bad when the majority of real customers are not.

You need every single house filled with AMD cpus. The time when guys like me, that give recommendations and build systems for people, can influence choices is over...that was 5 years ago. People can educate themselves on your products easily enough.

Simon Solotko did the "BLACKOPS" event in the spring. It was live-cast, and they had issues...becuase they failed to ensure that they had $100 in proper fittings for the LHe tank. "Chew*" was sitting at the controls of the motherboard, waiting for Simon to get it working...you should have seen his face. He was pissed. You also should have seen the panic on Simon's face as the LHe leaked out of the dewar and into the garage. That whole tihng coudl have gone very bad as the LHe replaced the oxygen in the garage...

Again, throwing and event like that in dude's garage, guys waking up and showing thier faces in camera with messy hair and obviously a bit smelly, was just so unprofessional...

As is this marketing campaign.

He's making AMD look like a bunch of amateurs. Time and again. Is that how we should perceive AMD? Is this really what AMD is about?

I truly hope not.

I am just glad to see an AMD rep presence around forums in general. Hearing about tech straight from the company in a personal sense means a great deal to us. People underestimate the power of sales and marketing in person or directly via the internet. A personal touch in this day and age is such a novelty regarding a large corporation that it would easily help move products. Thank you for communicating with us directly JF. It shows you really genuinely believe in your company. I know you have been here for a little while but I just wanted to say it directly. I would have said it sooner but personal shopping and work has gotten time consuming in the last week.

@the Twitter topic:

Twitter is actually a popular thing for older people that struggle to feel "hip" or younger. Those older people often times make important buying decisions for large companies so it is a fairly good idea to run promotions through it. It may seem silly to us but Twitter is practically free advertising. It works well for a lean marketing budget. Even though I don't use Twitter personally.

The number one thing to remember about marketing is that it takes all types. You will reach people on twitter that you will not reach on facebook. You will reach people on facebook that you will not reach through opt in emails.

Simon obviously did some things that were very specific to the enthusiast market and he did them through forums like this. But if he is doing something to reach the broader market, you need other outlets.

But he didn't do it on this forum but did on others... what's the selection process?
If your advertising strictly on Twitter i understand that but since your hitting forums too why not do one you're a member of?
