I completely agree that avatars and sigs should be regulated in some way. I found myself browsing the forums in college and the lecturer thought i was looking at a dodgey website. I found myself embarrassed to even read the thread and had to try and skip that members posts. All in all, it was a pain in the arse

I thought you said you wouldn't ever post pics of yourself, yet here I see the pic I took of you that day at the park. For shame, sir, for shame!

Sigh!

I can see the concern people are getting but, don't some of TPU's own (as in mods) have rather 'mature' avatars?

If you're allowed to have certain avatars that hint towards sexual, then so be it. If you don't like that user's avatar, use AdBlock or something to remove it. If it's offensive then a mod will deal with it. It's the user's responsibility (if they have children) to take the precautions of not exposing their children to it and it's the common sense of some users to not use overly explicit avatars & follows the rules set by those in power.

thanks, erocker, for pointing that out. I have nothing left to say. 'Twas only one avatar I've seen lately that seemed to cross that line.

About 95% of my searching TPU is at work, I do not turn off avatars but I am very aware of my surroundings. If I see something offensive I skip it, yet like Cadaveca says I will not view the forums at home due to the inappropriate time that my wife and kids will catch a glimpse of what I'm viewing. Like most things that are up for discussion everyone thinks their view is 100% perfect. I prefer not to see the avatars and would highly recommend that if those folks that have them would "RESPECT" their fellow TPU members and change them for something a little more tech related.
Thanks you for the folks that follow through with that!

If you are thinking about Tatty's I think pictures of family are allowed

Personally, I would like less "mature" avatars too, but its never too early to introduce nice pictures to the young ones.

The bottom line is, these avatars if deemed inappropriate they'll be removed. Simple.

Ok, you like girls.. or guys.... I hope you like one or the other... This is a tech site.. Not a whor3/s1ut site...

I agree with this. sopme of the avatars have gotten a tad out of hand. they leave little left for the imagination and honestly its down right embarrassing to have someone in your room when your viewing threads by certain members.

I'm able to surf and work and still get more done than those who don't surf. After 20 years of designing in an mechanical engineering field I know all the Pro-E and AutoCADD shortcuts that allow me to do my job effectively (allowing me to surf more). Surfing at work make me a sane person when I go home. Most of the engineers here look to me to get there stuff done. They know I have an "eye" for catching their mistakes and I can work my magic on their drawing layouts and 3D models. Not all surfers at work are slackers!

Thats nice gary. It seems that the people with flat humor are the ones supporting this ridiculousness. It doesnt matter WHOI is in the room. It can be a friend family brother sister child. It doesnt really matter. Its the members on TPU doing it that need to get a sense of class. I saw it mentioned earlier by someone that we can just get adblock or disable avatars. That is rediculous. I should NOT have to do that to keep the crap im seeing off my monitor. I will have you know that when I said I support this that also ment I will have absolutely no PROBLEM reporting your ass (get it gary? its flat humor like yours).

I'd be a lot more embarrassed to be caught surfing a page containing one of Solaris17's avatars than one of Don's (butt based) avatars.

Just sayin'
