o m g ...i am disappointed as well! The 580 def caught AMD off guard! If 6990 can't pull it off, I'm grabbing a 580. Still waiting to see the 6950 and 6970 xfire review. The only up side is price and tessellation

Oh well, more reason to save money instead of spending it!

So? 5970 cost $100 more than GTX 580 and they were comparable. These 2 are the flagships from each company

After all the hype, that was somewhat disappointing. Ah well, such is life.

Yes, the 69xx may be a disappointment but Nvidia got a head start anyway. The 480GTX was already fast but lacked the efficiency of most cards. All Nvidia had to do was improve the architecture. Whereas with AMD, they needed to make a card faster than the 5870 but didn't know where to start. The 580GTX is an improvement of the 480GTX but at least the 6970 was an improvement over the 5870. To sum up I was very disappointed as I heard the 6970 was meant to be at least 10-20% faster than the 480GTX

In terms of war, can we still fall back on the 5970? :/

well you have to look at it like this, the gtx580 is basically the same architecture as the 480 which has been around for about 7 months and the drivers for it are optimized pretty good from the looks

the 6970 though is a different design then the other cards though so the drivers aren't very mature, even a few days ago drivers were released that gave it a boost.

its still too early to call

glad i don't have the money to buy anything right now so i can wait and see.

might buy a 570 later though

that was the quickest ban i ever saw.

I bet Catalyst 11.1 addresses some of the issues like Bluray playback; we'll see what mature drivers can do for the card.

Great review as always, but the card seriously disappoints.
The only thing left for AMD is to price the cards lower, because at these prices, everyone will just buy the 570 or some future 560.

Not realy! Heck the 6970 beats the gtx570 in most the tests and gets real close to the gtx580 man. Go back and check the review again!
It even beats the gtx570 in Unigine heaven 2.1.

Im not saying the card isn't a disappointment, im just saying it's not a complete disappointment.

Bang for the buck FTW!

With the new drivers the cards will perform better for sure.

Pretty fail card for a high end single GPU solution compared to other cards on the market currently. They still haven't fully gotten above to the performance level of even the older 480. My high expectations have been destroyed.

But hey, i'll get one when they get a bit cheaper, and with driver improvements it should be a bit better at that moment in time.
