Hmmm... ex wife you say? Then a $15 350W no-name will do just fine.

Otherwise, that Corsair PSU will be ok - I use a Corsair (see specs) and it's fantastic.

How long was she using it? I've been using an Ultra LS-550 for about 6 months now with no issues.

Ultra's RMA is pretty fast. They send your new PSU as advance replacement (ofcourse they hold some money on ur credit card) and once you fix and up and running with the new one then you can ship the old one back to them with the return UPS shipping label they email you. So you actually spend nothing. Why not call them and talk to them?

I have exchanged 2 PSUs and everytime they upgraded me to a better wattage or more expensive models. They even upgraded my $40 400w PSU to a 650w Modular PSU which was $120 at that time.

Your Ex's system is anyway down, why not wait for 2 or 3 more days to get a replacement PSU?

Who knows they will even upgrade the 750w to a 1KW model, you can grab that and give her a cheap PSU if you want

You definitely don't want to spend money on a new PSU when you don't know the status of the rest of the PC. If the RMA isn't possible, then try another PSU first, perhaps the one from your PC? If the PC is damaged, it won't take out the PSU, but a damaged PSU can take out the PC.

As you live so far apart, how do you intend to fix the PC?

And on a more important note, the situation with your ex sounds interesting, so if you'd like to talk about it with us, we have the perfect place: TPU's sister site www.generalnonsense.net

Make a post there and link to it here.

And she must be good at following your instructions!

Part of my job is to work on the IT Helpdesk and I can tell you that no matter how good you are, if the person at the other end is clueless, being unable to follow simple instructions and answer simple questions, then you've got an uphill struggle.

I'm glad the PSU didn't take out anything with it.

There's nothing wrong in being paid back slowly. As long as you know she's trustworthy, then it's fine.

And finally, good on you for starting that thread about your ex over at GN - but you didn't link to it here!

Here it is www.generalnonsense.net/showthread.php?t=4990

I don't think it's right for us to judge without having the full facts. And even then, we probably shouldn't judge. Anyway, this one's for GN.
