It would be ultimately stupid to put the price of HD6970 1GB below the price of HD6950 2GB. Now that has more sense.

I'll still take my 6950' for around 289.00 and unlock it.

I *like* this hard competitive pricing.

GTX560 isnt launched yet, but with the pricing of 6970, it means there will be pressure to reduce the price on 560 as soon as "boatload number 2 from asia" arrives in dock.

Mid-end February will be a good time to buy a GPU.

***

BTW, I paid $279 equivalent for my ATi Radeon 8500. That was some time ago. A fantastic card... could run COD and Mafia smoothly! (Original editions )

It should be 6950 1GB, make no sense is 6970.
Sapphire board is launched here. 6950 1GB SRP 389, 6950 2GB SRP 429. Make more sense.

both the 6950 and 6970 should have the 1GB version

Think about it... do you really think that they would release a 1GB variant that has almost the same price? It wouldn't sell and would be a total waste of time and $$

Maybe the price is low compared to the 2GB version because the 1GB models don't have the ability to unlock. You're also forgetting the lower-cost components used on the PCBs.

If it's really that cheap this will be the first time in number of years that we've seen a major price war between nvidia and amd. I have a feeling this might hurt nvidia more than amd, not that'll make a dent after the intel settlement.

I remember a price war bigger than that when nvidia lowered the prices on gtx 2xx series
I also remember HD4870 1GB selling for 140 USD, less than half the MSRP 299 USD.

Guess you were right Doesn't make sense to me... WHY AMD WHY?!?

279$ seemed a little low for a 6970. But at 279$ for 1GB 6950 it is not a very smart move. 269$ would be a bit better, but this means that 6950 2GB stays at 299$, and MIRs are going to be max 15$ instead of the HIS 30$ one.

It seemed common sense to me, guess AMD didn't want to beat the hell out of NV. A 299$ 6970 1GB would still have been nice, as 279$ did seem a little low. I'm kinda disapointed now

Great news about the price.
AMD's been pumping out quality GPUs at a great pace.

This makes me feel less bad about myself. That price for a 1GB 6970 just seemed too big of a drop.

Because no one is prefect? As a matter of fact show me one news source in the WORLD that breaks new news and hasn't had misinformation fed to them. Please Bta does a good job. I doubt most people could do half the job he does.
