13.3" laptop with longest battery life?

I'm looking for a 13.3" inch laptop with the longest battery life- preferably 7 hours+ (10 hr rated?). The reason for the screen size is I'm using this heavily for school and I don't want to lug around something huge on top of 5 textbooks.

Preferably somewhere that ships to Canada (so amazon.com isn't an option, and amazon.ca sucks). Anyone know of any? Price range is $800 and down, preferably $700 and less.

I'm aware that I made a previous post about this, but the laptop I found got discontinued

TBH best laptop I have used in the size range was a HP Envy 14".

The Toshiba Portege R700 is also another great one...

The problem there...is price..both of those range from $1000-$1300.

the IBM IdeaPad u350 might not be a bad choice either. Those are Reseller only, bestbuy/newegg etc.

Hmm, wait for Bobcat? Products are being announced, and I am sure that its battery life is going to be awesome.

Sometimes a laptop AND A SECOND BATTERY may give you more options than an all-in-one 10hr life. That would also open up the option of a netbook. Everything to save space, weight, damage and theft factor.

If you like macs, then apparently the new Air has a very long battery life. http://osxdaily.com/2010/10/30/macbo...-battery-life/ If these figures are true, they are so much better than any netbook I have used which tend to survice 2-3hrs only.

There is also a whole market in extended EXTERNAL batteries. Things that are small bricks that you use to keep your laptop/phone etc. charged. They may be fugly, but they can be used for multiple devices, or will survive your laptop upgrade next year...

But as fourstaff says, the new E-350 AMD is supposed to be very energy efficient at 6.5W incl. IGP for passive browsing/word etc. Let's see. They are out at the end of Feb. Can you wait until then?

The ASUS UL20 (12") is slightly smaller with slightly less battery but in the 600$ range. Else the UL30 is what you are looking for

If you dont need something that powerful - you could try going for one the newer netbooks that have the N550 Dual core Atom processor - buy 8cell battery for it + 4gb ram and your good to go

:Edit:

as an optional item you could put in an SSD

I've got an Acer 3820TG, while I know that Acer has a bad rep, I've been fairly satisfied with it. It does what I want, and if you can find one with the bigger battery, it should do 7+ hours. Mine does 4-5h.

Look here for comments, buying locations and more info.

second this. very strong performance with good battery life. if you're getting the one with core i3, battery life will definitely better

edit: i've read many reviews and this one is one of the best bang for the buck imo

I'm gonna get hurt for this, but the Macbook Pro has pretty darn good battery life. In this test they looped a DVD movie for 7.5 hours on one charge. Dated tech though, only C2D.

I have an ASUS U30Jc, and it's a beast. Geforce 310M, Core i3 370, and on power saver medium brightness and wifi on, I get about 6-8 hours of battery life. It looks sexy too. The newer ASUS laptops really shine with battery life. I can play SC2 and TF2 and the like anytime, too.

yea but the asus are a lot more expensive and nowhere near as powerful for the price. battery wise i say at least 6 hours if you get the i3 which is plenty enough for school. plus the acer is thinner

A lot more expensive? $680 vs $650? I think not.

I paid about $800 for mine and it was worth every penny. They also throw in a two year accidental warranty.

If you get the Acer with 6550M (or 5650M, the same thing), then it beats Asus' every which way.

Not sure, but people over at NBR have done it and the info can be found somewhere over here.

i paid $550 for mine.. built in geforce 210m (310m is a rebranded 210). performs very well, and cpu comes with a 33% overclock out of the box . you get much more than 6 hours... its more like 9-10
